Long term outlook

Another week, another loss. This one seems to have hurt more than others because, for one, Matt Forte had more yards rushing than the Panthers had passing. Then there's also the ever emasculating feeling you get as a fan when Peppers pulls this WWF poo taunting the crowd that once cheered him. I once got a Peppers jersey as a Christmas gift that had to be returned because it was a kid's jersey, and eventually got a Keyshawn jersey instead. In the long run I'm more proud to wear the Keyshawn jersey. I'm not livid and ready to declare vendetta on Peppers because there's probably some reason in his perspective but at this point I don't feel like he deserves any honor or recognition within our franchise. So, in a nutshell, i'm kind of indifferent to his existence.

You're probably witnessing the toughest and lowest point of our franchise. At least in 2001 you could've said the brain trust gave a full conscientious effort at getting the personnel they needed. This offseason they made moves (and, conversely, didn't make moves they should've) based on financial influence as a primary factor. In a way, you could say we plaxico'ed ourselves, and at this point i'd estimate we're at the rushing to the hospital with our eyes closed pants ripped and gauze pressed part of it all. How long the whole process is going to take is unknown at this point.

it depends on who you hire to replace fox

the falcons built a solid team under mike smith immediately. the ravens with harbaugh did the same thing, but i would say they were more talented than the falcons to begin with and that they were more talented than we are right now.

I don't know if this is a judging year for any of our QBs, and even if it was, Jimmy should be given a bit of slack for his efforts. If we get a QB driven head coach that gives us more opportunity to be successful in the long run because that's the hardest facet of the game to figure out, and it is possible to find someone that's going to fix the passing game and get us that guy we can rely on to get 3500 yards at least and 4000 or more if need be, whether it's Clausen or someone else. Defenses always have the edge to start with because it's their field you have to throw and run around on. Running the ball is simple compared to passing as well. The game has evolved to where you just can't be one dimensional anymore. Teams that run are not very good overall, teams that pass aren't much better off but the best teams are the ones with balanced offenses or the ones who have Peyton Manning signaling calls.

One quiet reservation about this whole Jerry thing that I've been juggling over is that this gesture may not make Carolina an appealing landing spot for future in-demand free agents. After all, JR's made his intentions clear of just how much he values players. Long term it could be nothing but it's just something you have to consider even after a new CBA is established and general goodwill between the players and the owners is restored, whenever that happens.

So i know for this year as of right now everything looks absolutely terrible but to get a new guy in with new ideas to re-invigorate the team will give this franchise the energy to make a complete 180 degree turn. It's kind of like popeye and spinach. The panthers are just tired, and they need some spinach
