Why Would you NOT Want The Ball?

At least Fox didn't walk off the field with 28 seconds left in the first half. I was still in a bit of shock at the half from the coin toss at the beginning. I seem to recall a fair catch by the Panthers and the clock went to 00:00 at the half.

Today the Panthers had a gun with unlimited ammo and they kept using it on themselves. A good college team could have beat them.

Actually, I think if it had been overturned we would have been on the edge of field goal range (he went out around the 35 or I could be thinking of something else). That is the only reason I can think he would even challenge it.

Yeah, depends on what we think his range is... after seeing that 53-yarder that did make it, I don't think he could've gotten another 2 yards out of it.

It would've been a 55-yarder. To me it still made no sense to challenge it, especially seeing how he clearly didn't have control of the ball and I really believe there was no way Kasay makes that - most likely would've been blocked.

3-9-CHI 41 (3:00) (Shotgun) 2-J.Clausen pass incomplete short right to 11-B.LaFell. Play Challenged by CAR and Upheld. (Timeout #2.)

I would actually prefer to get the ball to start the second half.

Yup! You put your strongest team out on the field first. That is the defence. Didn't look like it for the first 10 minutes of the game. But always lead with best first.

The bigger question for me is, why not come out passing first? While Clausen is confidant from practice all week. Get some passing to open up the run. I swear we have the dumbest most predictable OC in the history of the NFL.

We also said that about Henning when he was here.

EXACTLY, AGAIN, it's because the OC is not the one calling the shots... Me and Brucebrewski were talking about that during the game... Davidson is sitting up in the box and is seeing their alignments, their tendencies, everything at a much better angle than we're seeing on TV...

Do we really think he chooses after seeing this to continue calling the same plays, the same way, every series? No way I believe that. Fox is the one calling the shots and the game has passed him by...

I still say that about DAn Henning because I'm still not able to predict Davidson's plays like I could DAn's. But that may be because I don't get to see but three plays every 8 minutes this season.

If Fox is the "mastermind" of this offense we might want to consider treason charges..... :grouphug: Oh! No treason in the NFL? Crap! :prrr:

i am a fan of deferring to the second half. it gives you a chance to evaluate what the opposing defense is doing for the first half, then, during halftime, you draw up your plays for your first drive based on what the opposing defense has shown you in the first half.

In a world where coaching staffs make halftime adjustments that would work rather nicely. Unfortunately that world is not Pantherland

Same reason you challenge a "catch" for a 3 yard gain that would've had you at 4th and 6 instead of 4th and 9 but still out of FG range. We really have no direction/leadership.

I sure hope anyone in the national media who toots the Fox horn realizes how many insanely moronic decisions, he does in a game/season... When that challenge flag came out I felt like a mentally ill grandparent was having his senior moment..embarrassing

Fwiw, had they won the challenge, it would not have been out of fg range. Ball would have been on the 36 yardline, which makes it a 53 yard fg. A long one no doubt, but still within Kasay's range if he hits it well.

Anybody notice that Hurney was sitting next to Davidson in the OC box? He was literally right next to him at the desk. Conspiracy theories on 3 ready break!
