Wouldn't be talking about yourself would you?

Seriously. WTF do you expect people to say?

"Oh... it's ok. The Panthers can suck. It's just means we will have a better draft next year!"

Here's a reality check for you... most people see us this way:

realists-optimism-pessimism-realism.jpg

And IF you are a fan, you SHOULD be pissed.

Actually, it wasn't. The company and its subsidiary, Denny's, was under several class action lawsuits for alleged racism, and was smothered in debt. Flagstar lost $55.2 million on revenues of $2.6 billion in 1995, and Denny's alone had paid out $54 million in settlements stemming from incidents based while Richardson was at the helm.

To his credit, Richardson did eventually attempt to address the problems with the lack of diversity at Denny's, and the parent company, Flagstar.

Here's an article, from 1996... not long after JR left Flagstar, that will give you an idea of how Flagstar was, and had been doing

You should read what kind of person and businessman Jerry Richardson is:

I think the Panthers got caught up with some bad money decisions. Peppers should have been gone before last year. The FO made that ridiculous extension to Jake (which Richardson no doubt endorsed, or at least, someone among them did. Could that be why the Richardson boys were removed?). Fox is owed for this season, as is Jake. Fox is not a developer of offensive talent. Period. Imagination is at least as important as anything else to maximize productivity on offense, we have none. The team would have been better off keeping Jake (as I said, we're paying him anyways this year!) to be a mentor for our young QBs and letting Fox go. We can't change any of that now, but this team is befuddled. For the first half yeterday, we had a total team breakdown (and this despite 3 picks!). While the defense rallied somewhat in the second half, it wasn't enough. But we are not getting better. That needs to change.

If I had my drothers, we would be wildcatting much more with Edwards. If we throw an incomplete first down pass, we need to attempt a pass on second down from play action. We need to try to block punts. Let's try an onside kick to start the game or at the start of the second half, or after a score at some time! Let's have a reverse or a cross field backwards pass when receiving a kickoff! We're 0-5 for Christ's sake, we can't lose anything by NOT trying something to give the other side something to think about. The present approach is doing nothing to develop our QBs. The single biggest mistake that is contributing to the debacle this year is Jake being gone. He is done as a starter (and possibly as a player for that matter based on what he's doing in Cleveland), but he was there on the sideline for Moore last year in the last part of the season, and Moore's performance wasn't a fluke. I hope that lesson sinks in to those who run this franchise. I hope a total house cleaning is done after this year. The only coaches I'd keep is Meeks and those he thinks are worth retaining for the defense. Get rid of Fox and Hurney and Davidson and the rest of them.

That's a good write up, PL. But I never said that JR was a bad man, or a bad business man. In fact, as you can see in my post that you quoted, I stated that "To his credit, Richardson did eventually attempt to address the problems with the lack of diversity at Denny's, and the parent company, Flagstar.".

The reason I posted the article was because you stated that "when he left, the company was thriving", and it wasn't.

I'm thinking of a Dean Koontz book where someone gets one of their organs (I think heart) replaced with a serial killer's, and then they become a serial killer. Was it Hideaway? I can't remember but maybe that's what happened with JR? Can we do some research and find out if he was the recipient of the heart of a cheap dickhead? That'd explain tons, and would make for a great lifetime movie too.

In the case of a car, people expect them to run for at least several years. Sure, the warranty might have only been a year, but you buy it with an expectation of longer service from the car than that. If the engine block cracks on day 366 of owning it, you have no recourse but to replace the engine... ergo your money was wasted on a bad car.

If I pay top dollar for entertainment, I expect to be entertained. Watching the other team run all over us is not entertainment. Doesn't change the fact that I expected the team to try and put together a plan to win. If I see us consistently get beat by 10 or more points, then its obvious that they didn't put together a good plan.

I'm a huge Panther fan! And I don't understand how anyone COULD NOT be entertained by this? I mean really?! It is like driving in your 366 day old cracked engine block car, and witnessing train wreck after train wreck after train wreck. How couldn't you be entertained by this? It's football comedy, and it is HILARIOUS!!!

So, you say, well RockECU, I don't find it very comical. Well, let me tell you buddy, the sooner you start laughing at every stupid thing that happens, the easier it will be on you.

So, you say, well RockECU, I buy tickets and/or have PSLs to the games. Okay, fantastic! Don't be an idiot then and show up 10 minutes into the game. Show up 2-3 hrs early, tailgate and have some great food with great company, and when you go to the game, have a booing contest to see who can booo the loudest. Or scream Tony Pike's name the loudest. See who can make the nicest Firefox browser logo sign, and bring it to the game.. See who can wear a paper bag on their head the longest. That is your time to make your voice heard as well. Not on a Panthers fan forum. Fox sucks? Let him know it. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing. People on the sidelines can hear you if you yell it loud enough. Richardson taking your hard earned money? Make a sign that says "You're welcome JR for the stimulus check". Make it fun. And on the walk back to the car with your pals, make fun of the team some more.

As far as expectations go... You were out of your mind if you actually expected this team to finish above 8-8 this year. Fox has only done it 3 times.

For those who don't understand why PSL owns aren't happy.

A simple analogy, a breakfast analogy, eggs and bacon.

The source of the eggs is involved and the source of the bacon is committed.

A big difference.

I won't be committed anymore come January if there is not a new coach and a plan.

I chose to actually support this team and Richardson. I will choose not to support them in the future.

To say a team is rebuilding is one thing. To have a pro team that has no chance of even getting sustained first downs is something else again.

What does this mean? I will lose my original investment and so be it but, I won't be throwing anymore money to Jerry's little throne at the foot of the NFL base. The NFL is so important to him, let the NFL fund him. If not, let him move the team somewhere. Who cares.

People on this board are critical of PSL owners, some are rightfully critical, but as for me and others who sit in my section, we love football, we save money and give up other things to see football played supposedly played at it's highest level. I don't ask for or expect a winning record every year, I just ask for a team that is watchable and has hope. This team has none and it's not the first time in the Fox era either. It's pitiful and in the 15 years I have owned those PSLs, I have never been so pissed.

The Panthers are without doubt the absolute worst team in the league and there was no need for them to be that way.

Thanks Jerry. Good Luck selling the PSLs I turn back in to the next sucker.

I know you can sell a PSL to an individual with a gain, but what if no one buys? Will the Panthers buy back the PSL for, at least, what you paid for it or will it be rated at present value?

No buy backs. If you don't buy your seasons' tickets, you simply lose your PSL and get nothing from the Panthers.
