"He still has some value and he is almost 30 and we have good players behind him."

Ummmm, he's 27 and he's been splitting carries with Stewart, so his legs are probably closer to 25.

I would not be the least bit surprised to see Williams walk.

Steve Smith can't walk because he's under contract through the 2012 season, although his contract is backloaded and he'll be due a pay raise exceeding $1.25M next year if the Panthers keep him.

I think Carolina will do more to keep Beason than they will Williams.

how do you figure his legs are closer to 25? He is 27.....that is getting close to the magic age. DeAngelo had more mileage on his legs coming into this league than anyone. There are always exceptions.....just don't bet on your team being the exception to the rule.

Steve Smith can make a team want to trade him. Steve Smith can probably do that in his sleep. Happens all the time in the NFL.

Uh, someone please tell me where this Dwill trade talk came from? You idiots make no sense and if it happens, neither does our front office.

Extending Stewart and Williams doesn't make sense. Investing that kind of money into your backfield in a passing league doesn't make sense......especially when that puts money and talent on the sidelines.

it isn't outlandish at all.

oh, yeah....I forget. They will give us a discount because they love Carolina and each other:rolleyes:

he might not want to. He can still be buddies with boy Stewart in a different city. I think people put way too much into that kind of stuff. These guys want to win.

If Smith and Williams stay in Carolina....there last few good years in the league will be on a team rebuilding. 2-3 yrs they have left as studs....then they will become roleplayers if still healthy.

I see your point but I really think with our core group we are only a new coach (only because Fox and ownership have broken ties) and a couple of good vets from being a really good playoff team.

What I'm saying is I don't think its as much of a building project as some may think. This team isn't as bad as it looks. The Oline really has issues right now and Jimmy was getting killed and twisted up out there today. They weren't blocking for sh*t!

I'd also get another full back, a bruiser with an attitude. Fiametta is playing soft, cutting people at the feet and what not.

I get it, I know why Peppers left now! It's because the Panthers wouldn't pay him what he wanted because he was, after all, getting close to 40 years old.

And Smith won't get traded, he'll get released next year when the Panthers decide they don't want to pay him over $7M.

my guess is we try to move stewart during the off season & either franchise or resign d-will. even tho d-will is headed for the dreaded 30, he hasn't had the carries most backs have by this age. he could be productive well into his thirties since we also have goodson & sutton to carry 10 to 12 times stewart does now

releasing Smith would be retarded. Just like letting a player w/ the value Pep had walk was.

Sorry, but there is evidence to support RBs rapid decline around age 30. I get it, Williams is Panther therefore he is an exception to the norm.....

Players want to win. Great players really want to win. I think "fans" are fooling themselves if they think great players with a small window left in this league are going to want to play out the next few seasons on a team rebuilding. 2-3 yrs......

Why the hell would DWill even want to stay here? He just loves Charlotte so much? lol

He's going to get more money elsewhere.

His owner sold out the players and is rallying all the other owners to lock them out.

Want to ever win a championship? There's about 30 other teams right now that give you a better chance.

He'll have to learn a whole new scheme whether he stays or goes.

He has no idea how the new coaching staff will do and how things will change. So he could either take this wild gamble that everything works out here or go to an established team with the pieces already in place.

The only way I see him staying is if we offer him a big ass contract. And that means either A) Stewart is gone when his contract is up or B) we keep them both and screw over our team royally by sinking in a huge amount of our cap space on RBs.

well into his 30s?

Name 3 RBs in the past 10 years than have been the #1 RB for a team and been highly productive in their 30s?

I know how a lot of you guys feel but once again I would love to see Steve Smith in the hands of Jon Gruden. He would instantly have the respect of this locker room. I'd make Meeks assistant HC because this defense is a beast, even Pep wanted to come back and play for Meeks!

Smith wouldn't have to leave as long as he is featured (which he deserves). The guy just wants the ball, that's it, he'll do the rest. An offensive coach would make that his mission.
