If first round QBs are "destined busts" as people like to refer them to...

Let's take a look at an fuller list of QB's we "missed" in the first or second round in Fox's tenure:

02 - Harrington and Ramsey passed over for Peppers

03 - Boller and Grossman passed over for Gross

04 - No real prospects here. Losman was the closest at 22. We got Gamble instead

05 - Rodgers and Campbell passed over for Davis.

06 - Clemens and T Jackson passed over for Williams

07 - Quinn and Kolb passed up for Beason (and Kalil)

08 - Flacco and Brohm (2nd) passed up for Stewart and Otah

Of these 13 QB's only 3 started fulltime this year.

So Fox and Hurney gets 9 key starters instead of taking a 76% chance we get a guy who doesn't even start.

Man what a bunch of idiots.

throw in beck, henne, and edwards. sorry idk the years each was drafted. but iirc all were 2nd or 3rd rounders

yea, it did a lot of good only for a 34 year old QB one year removed from major elbow surgery to throw 5 interceptions. You noticed I didn't mention half those guys. And I already made my point of unsuccessful drafted QBs going to terrible teams. Harrington, Ramsey and Quinn haven't had great supporting casts and Brian Brohm was drafted by the same team that took Aaron Rodgers.

Why would you want a QB with 1 year of college play?

I would rather take a braford or The Golden Calf of Bristol who have had more time to prepare.

2010 draft is going to be the opportunity we have wanted to get our next QB

I am a Gator fan and I really don't see The Golden Calf of Bristol being that great. He is adamant about being a QB so I think that's what he'll be at the next level. But I just don't see him being that great. So throw him out of the equation for 2010. Bradford on the other hand translates into a better Pro QB.

But really what does 1 year of experience really have to do with it. Sanchez has all the tools to become a good starting QB in the NFL. I like his arm and his mobility. Sure, experience can only help a player but it's not like one without is in bad shape. Hell look at the QBs in New England. Brady and Cassel didn't have much college experience.

Sanchez scares the crap outa me too, talent hell yes, experiance hell no. if we expect him to come in here and take us to the playoffs year 1, or heck start year 1, i am not to hopefull. the bust rate on throwing a qb to the fire with little experiance is not too good. freeman and stafford have 3 years experiance each, and would be alot more hopeful that they could cope like flacco or ryan.

personally i am thinking its getting very close to matt moore's time, or its time to look somewhere else quick. we need a definate qb by 2010 alteast. if its not moore, we need to get a guy on the roster quick to learn for a year and take over (mccown?).

I think Sanchez rolled the dice and came out early because he's much more likely to be the first QB picked this year than next. Stiffer competition next year. Plus look what happened to Leinert, cost himself a lot of cash staying an extra year.

So in other words how you feel about the issue is more important than facts.

Brohm looked horrible this year evetime he took the field. Ramsey had plenty of talent around him. Harrington sucked no matter where he went.

Still are you saying we should have taken Joey instead of Julius? Grossman instead of Gross? Clemens instead of Dwill?

I'm not too keen on Sanchez. Of course he maximized his draft value by declaring early, where another year's stay could've dropped his stock, but only one year of starting experience isn't enough, I'd actually value him more if we seen him play nearly as well next year in school, but we just haven't seen enough of him yet.

I can't answer that, I don't have a crystal ball, but by the same coin...

Should the Steelers have taken Gamble over Roethlisberger?

Should the Giants have traded for Gamble instead of Eli?

Should the Ravens have stood pat at 9 and picked Derrick Harvey instead of Flacco?

you can sit on your assertions that, while, YES, the Panthers have gotten great production out of our first rounders and that DeAngelo was a better pick than Clemens. But you really think any of the players we have picked have made a bigger impact for their team than Big Ben has for the Steelers? I don't think so, since none of those guys we have drafted have a ring on their finger.

I'm a little confused, did Brohm even hit the field this year ?

How do you know those players would have made the same impact here?

How do you know those players wouldn't have made the same impact here?

None of us know either way, but I could tell you that, ineffective as he might look in Cleveland so far, maybe, just maybe Brady Quinn would have a better shot at succeeding with a better running game and a better defense to take the pressure off of him, like we've had.

Basically the only reasons people refuse to even think about first round QBs are because they think of David Carr before Peyton Manning, and have subconsciously grown to accept Fox's opinion that they don't play well enough.

And I don't think that Redskin fans, Steelers fans, Cowboys fans, Colts fans, Giants fans, Eagles fans etc would agree with you that it's a bad decision to make to draft a QB in the first round.
