ESPN just reported...

Shefter just reported it again on ESPN Radio. He said atleast two teams inquired about DeAngelo, but that the Panthers were very stern in stating he is not available, and went on to say that Stewart was also unavailable, even though there was no inquiries for him, and they were not interested in trading either one.

I like the sound of that. I hope they are both signed long term.

I considered this. Maybe this is just a hardball tactic to try to up his trade value. I seriously doubt it given the history and attitude from our FO, but maybe.

wow. are you really that blind?

again, look at the business side...he's on the tail end of his contract. if he were to be traded, a team is only commited to him for the rest of this season.

he can be extended, tagged, or sent walking when the season is done.

the situation is no different no matter what uniform he's wearing when the season is over.

again, moss is the example.

and you do understand that 80% of teams trade for a player with the intentions of signing them long term..

He is not a "filler" player, you are getting a skill guy in his prime, you dont let them walk after 1 season...

If the rules remain the same, and it's likely they would ...

Any team that trades for Williams would retain his franchising rights. If they were to let him walk as a UFA, it would be likely that the team would receive a compensatory 3rd round pick in 2012 for losing a player of his caliber.

Therefore, if a team were to give up a 3rd to get Williams, they don't resign him, they really don't lose anything because they'd get an extra 3rd a season later.

My guess is the Panthers won't part with a Pro Bowl RB for a 3rd rounder, however, they traded Jenkins for a 3 and a 5.

If the Panthers were offered a first round pick for Williams, they'd be stupid not to take it. I don't think a first has been offered, especially for a RB nearing 30 years old.

i didn't say they would walk, but a smart team would let the season play out and look at the draft before commiting to anything long term.

williams is appealing right now because of his contract situation and the number of RBs carolina has lined up makes him look expendable. he's being inquired about because it makes good business sense.

just in case, you haven't been keeping up with my "hating" of williams, i've been saying since last season that carolina will offer williams and extension. whether or not he's in a panther uniform after this season is all up to him.
