They need to work out an extension or trade him now.

Waiting till the end of season and allowing him to test free agency is a terrible idea if they're intent on keeping him.

Trying to work out a tag and trade is also a bad idea if we're going to eventually trade him. Taking this route can severely hurt a players trade value, all just to get 12 more games out of him in a throw away season.

I've said before that we should be on the phones with the Packers trying to pry away their 2011 first and whatever else we can get for DWill. But this doesn't surprise me. Our FO doesn't make these kind of plays. They have their plan and they stick to it no matter what. No flexibility or adjustments when situations change.

Seattle just got Marshawn Lynch for a 4th and a later pick. Lynch is not quite as talented as DWill but he's got a cheap contract that's signed. Keep in mind Green Bay wasn't even willing to pay that.

I'm not at all convinced you could get high draft picks for DWill at his age. All I'm saying is that the FO should at least be willing to entertain the idea. We have no idea what teams are willing to give up unless we hear them out.
