Skins cut Devin Thomas WR

Recommended Posts

Off the Redskins' board. Sounds like Dwayne Jarrett player.

Could Devin Thomas be more suited for runningback?

After looking at highlights of Devin Thomas' college and Pro career it was apparent that the majority of his production has been through end arounds, screen passes, and kick returns.

A pro wide receiver needs to know and understand a whole lot of intricacies in the play book while runningback's are not the same case.

Devin has had trouble learning the playbook. He is built more like a runningback. He would be capable picking up blitzes(which is far less complicated to learn).

Bottomline: Devin Thomas has elite size, speed, and elusiveness
but he is dumb as a rock and has average hands
. Sounds like a runningback.

If you want another Dwayne Jarrett then bring him in.

I guess the upside is he wouldn't cost us a second round pick.

wonder what he means by very limited skillset? he has to at least play ST.

Yeah, I wondered that too, but I think we're getting confused between his present skillset vs. potential.

He has tons of potential and is skilled in some areas now, just prolly not where they thought he would be to this point...

Just bring him in and throw him some routes of all sorts with Clausen. We should be evaluating all the talent we can for a cheap price.

Currently we have Gettis, LaFell, Clowney, and Edwards trying to step in a be productive. Throw Thromas in the mix and keep guys hungry. When Smith comes back into the mix, I'd think we at least had a 2 and 3 behind him by then.

.........why?

David Clowney Career since 2008: 16 receptions, 239 yards, 1 touchdown

Devin Thomas Career since 2008: 40 receptions, 445 yards, 3 tds, 1 rushing td

sooooooooo any reason you like clowney better? just blind homerism?

These two players are young and have potential, but its a shame when Moose had better stats in the '08 season than these 2 combined since '08

Muhsin Muhammad 2008: 65 receptions, 923 yards, 5 touchdowns

Redskins fan here.

I'm amazed there is an 11 page thread on DT. Some 'skins fans are slightly irritated he is gone, but prob. more with the old front office drafting him in the first place. Anyway...

The reasons Shanny cut him can be summed up largely in this picture...

The Redskins WR depth is HORRIBLE and the franchise put 2 years and a 2nd round pick into him. That should tell you all you need to know about him getting cut. But i will give you the why.

The man is lazy as hell. He makes almost no effort in practice and sleeps through meetings. He doesn't know the playbook. He runs poor routes. He drops most of the passes thrown at him, mostly because he is paying more attention to how he looks then finishing a play. He is often injured and spent his first years in the league under a moron of a coach; and hurt. He has all the potential in the world, size and speed. Problem being he cares more about his music career, being in a music video and going out and being stupid; then his football career. The man is stupid, slow to figure out football the right way, so he doesn't try. Unless you guys have an assertive WR coach and HC to force him to grow up, wouldn't touch him. (btw, that 1 game he didn't suck, was also the 1 game he didn't suck)

So you guys going to get Bill Cowher after this season? (how/why i found the forum) Believe he lives down there and its the only team he mentioned willing to come back to coach for right?

Edit: BTW, extremeskins might be the 'skins "official forrum" and huge, but threads can get stupid quick. www.hailredskins.com would be a better place to check out for 'skins info.

It's possible a cut, and the fact no one would trade for him, could open his eyes a little bit. While he may have only had 1 good game, at least he's had real NFL game experience. Not to mention his QB was Jason Campbell, who isn't horrible, but still.

Thanks, man. Maybe this thread will die now. Oh, even the Rams don't want the kid and they just lost their #1.
