Skins cut Devin Thomas WR

Recommended Posts

.........why?

David Clowney Career since 2008: 16 receptions, 239 yards, 1 touchdown

Devin Thomas Career since 2008: 40 receptions, 445 yards, 3 tds, 1 rushing td

sooooooooo any reason you like clowney better? just blind homerism?

Clowney Homer? New concept to me.

Clowney seemed like he was the odd man out and the Jets really wanted to keep him.

Thomas was cut and could not get a sniff from another NFL team. He has been accused or bad routes, bad hands, and a bad attitude.

We are arguing minutae. they are both below average and are only on this team because we are the worst in the league. We only need a placeholder while Smitty is injured and we work on all our developmental projects.

So fine replace one C- castoff wide receiver with another who cares.

But Thomas seems like damaged goods to me

Shanahan has some quirks, could be as simple as their personalities not clicking. I've seen several teams drop a player just so they can fill a void for 1 game - then immediately resign them the following week.

I honestly don't see any harm in taking a look at him. Sometimes you find a diamond digging around in the dirt.

Rototimes already threw our names in the hat:

Our View: Still just two years removed from being a second round draft pick, there should be more than one team willing to take a flier on him. Perhaps receiver starved clubs like the Rams and Panthers will be first in line.

I haven't checked recently, but I've never heard of rototimes, I've know rotoworld, maybe they're the same???

Anyways, we better jump on this ASAP. This guy is big, fast, strong, and versatile. In all honesty, I know we wouldn't, but we'd be better off cutting Lafell. We won't do it, but they're the same age and I just have a feeling that Lafell is gonna end up Jarrett 2.0.

I really hope we put in a waiver claim for him, he really would be the best WR on the roster with Smitty out...

Question: If we put in a waiver claim, wouldn't we automatically be awarded the player because we're 0-4?

Off the Redskins' board. Sounds like Dwayne Jarrett player.

Could Devin Thomas be more suited for runningback?

After looking at highlights of Devin Thomas' college and Pro career it was apparent that the majority of his production has been through end arounds, screen passes, and kick returns.

A pro wide receiver needs to know and understand a whole lot of intricacies in the play book while runningback's are not the same case.

Devin has had trouble learning the playbook. He is built more like a runningback. He would be capable picking up blitzes(which is far less complicated to learn).

Bottomline: Devin Thomas has elite size, speed, and elusiveness
but he is dumb as a rock and has average hands
. Sounds like a runningback.

If you want another Dwayne Jarrett then bring him in.

Awesome, LaCanfora just tweeted me back and said he's looking into whether we're interested:

Sounds more and more like Jarrett!

Re: Could Devin Thomas be more suited for runningback?

I think your standards of "elite" are way too low.

Elite size would be like TO or Randy Moss. Thomas has ideal size (like Boldin) but it does little good when you don't use your size as a receiver.

Elite speed would be like Moss and Banks. Thomas has average speed with no skill to get separation.

Elusive agility would be like Tomlinson (of the old and current), Westbrook, or McCoy. Those guys would break ankles while laughing. I wouldn't consider Thomas elusive... mainly because that's not his running style. Rather than trying to make people miss, Thomas seems to try to power his way through defenders.

I think Thomas would get wrecked getting hit by linebackers with regularity.

Re: Could Devin Thomas be more suited for runningback?

This is professional football, the best of the best. To think that he could just quickly learn how to play RB, let alone, how to block against incoming defenders in passing situations is absolutely insane.

He can't even learn his natural position well enough to get on the field. No way could he pick up the RB position quickly enough to be better than other RB prospects.
