Armanti Edwards has sea legs for first Carolina Panthers game

You must admit that the FO did not give up a 2nd round pick with the plans to have him inactive while he gets his legs. 2nd rounders should be competing for the starting position. Clausen is. LAfell is. Hardy is. Gettis is.

The reality is they could have gotten him in the 7th

They made a mistake. And now the only hope is to see if he develops.

Really?

If you can predict that, why don't you send me a message with next week's lotto numbers?

Projection: 7th Round

This will likely be one of the toughest tweener projections that scouts will have to make this year as Edwards would have been a reject in most years but his performance against top flight competition will have scouts taking the time to figure out where he belongs.

Whatever 5th, 7th. Who cares he is a bust

AE isn't a bust at this point, his first NFL season isn't over, He still has plenty of time to develope. He's going to get a chance to develope as a WR in game situations.

Can't be considered a bust at this point, you give all NFL players 3 years for that. Especially WR, specifically QB's switching positions to WR.

On a team that desperately needs WR he will get his chance soon.

What are gettis and Lafell starting and not Armanti. Why don't those guys need to develop?

They were WR's in college and they are developing....Do you not understand that WR is the hardest position in regards to the college - NFL transition? AE is making that same transition as well as switching from QB to WR at the same time.....It's going to take time for that to happen.

Lafell and Gettis are starting because they have played WR before and that wr experience came in college. It's naturally going to be easier for them to pick up the routes and so forth.

Like I said, how do you know he would be in the seventh round? That argument is invalid, because those same people had Jimmy Clausen in the first round. Was he? Nope, he was mid-second.

Just because your a Michigan fan, doesn't mean that you have to hate on Armanti.

EDIT - Like I said before. Dwayne Jarrett got four years. Give the kid one game.

Garbage. At this pace of development he will not play much at all this year even with the worst/youngest WR corps in the league. Any other team with decent WRS he would likely be released

Nothing wrong with drafting a prospect to develop.

But you don't give up a 2nd round pick. The FO did not intend to have him develop for a year or two.

Just admit he is not what we thought he was.

You must be the most insightful poster in the world. You knew where Armanti would be, you know what the Front Office was thinking. Jesus, dude, you need to be Marty Hurney's Assistant.

Let's just give the kid a chance on the field. He'll either have it or he won't. Until he's been on the field for two or three games, we'll never really know for sure, will we?

Me, I'm an Armanti fan. I saw what he did at App State. I saw him perform in the play offs and in the championship games. I saw him hold his own against Michigan and outperform their QB.

I also saw him looking tentative catching punts in the preseason. I also saw him catch more passes in the preseason than any of our other receivers, and turn them up field when he got the chance. I also saw him fail to make it around the end while rushing and also whip a laser-beam pass from the Mountaineer package.

But none of that matters until he gets on the field. He could be Dexter Jackson part two. Or he could be Smitty the Younger. We just don't know.

But sitting at 0-4 with Smitty out, we've got nothing to lose by lining him up and throwing some shots his way. Heck, break out the Mountaineer package, it might work. Nothing else has this year.

No idea what Michican fan means. I don't root for them.

Read my posts. 7th, 5th, 4th, 8th whatever. We went WAY to high for what will be a bust in the NFL. You are locking in on 7th round. You can't see the forest for the trees

Great so he is on track to be like Jarrett. Great comparison. That argument is perfect.

Jarret was also a 2nd rounder who was inactive to start his career. Total bust in the NFL.

I doubt Edwards even gets the stats Jarrett did.

Nobody drafts high with plans to sit the player.

If you can't see that you obviously went to Bovine University.

So you are saying they may have given up a 2nd with plans to have him not contribute for a year or 2? On a team thin at WR?

Yeah I'm pretty sure this was not the plan. You don't have to be an NFL scout to understand that. You just have to be not retarded.

He was supposed to develop quickly. He has not. On a good team we would have gotten rid of him. However we stink and have no players so we may as well let it run its course

He can't play QB. The wildcat is not gonna happen. And it looks like he doesn't have what it takes to be an NFL WR

Developmental players you pick up in the 6th round.

As I said, you must be the most insightful poster ever. You know things for a fact, without ever seeing the kid play one game in the NFL. Hell, he hasn't even been on the field against defenses that matter. (Pre-season defenses aren't the same.)

The kid's got talent. Loads. Sure he's small. Didn't everyone say the exact same thing about Steve Smith when he was drafted? "He's undersized! He won't be able to play in the NFL! He can't take a hit!"

And giving up a 2nd for him could be nothing in the long-term. Hurney knew where he had him on his board. It didn't matter what Mel Kiper said. It didn't matter what Todd McShay said. It didn't matter what Mike Mayock said.

You have no idea what the kid can bring. Until you see him play a single snap, much less a game, hold off on your "I KNOWS DIS KID BE TEH SUX. HE NO GUD."

EDIT - Steve Smith Rd. 3 Pick 74/Armanti Edwards Rd. 3 Pick 89.
