Going back to the hit, the helmet hit first. On Sportscenter, they just showed a 1/2 speed clip of the side view, and it is unable to tell what hit first. But if u use 1/4 view via a DVR, the helmet clearly hits a split second before the shoulder.

Edit: Damn, AK beat me to it with the answer and he had nice pictures.
