Spanish is what everyone speaks in South America. ;)

Uh, not everyone. South America was settled by the Spanish and Portugal, who were among the biggest land grabbers besides the British of course.

Everyone I know in Brazil speak Portuguese. (And Brazil is no small country either.)

Brazil (pronounced /brəˈzɪl/; Portuguese: Brasil, IPA: [bɾaˈziw]), officially the Federative Republic of Brazil[6][7] (Portuguese: República Federativa do Brasil, (help·info)), is the largest country in South America. It is the world's fifth largest country, both by geographical area and by population.[8][9] It is the only Portuguese-speaking country in the Americas and the largest lusophone country in the world.

That's my History lesson for today kids.
