Peppers on Panthers: 'It was a little sour'

In a conference call with reporters ahead of Peppers' return to Charlotte on Sunday with the Chicago Bears, the five-time Pro Bowl defensive end said he was under the impression the Panthers decided to "do away with anybody who is making a significant amount of money" as part of a roster overhaul that's produced the NFL's youngest team.

"That's a business decision. I can understand and respect that," the 30-year-old Peppers said. "The problem that I had was they tried to turn the tables and make it look like I wanted out no matter what. Really, I didn't have the option to stay. It was never offered to stay."

"So when I say it ended a little sour, I felt like it could have been a little more respectful. At least a phone call to say, 'It's been good. We're going in a different direction. We're going to let you go.' They couldn't even give me that."

Seems like reality to me

You people will be booing Peppers

You should be booing JR

Didn't Pep announce he wanted to play somewhere else? He turned down 2 offers to be the highest paid D player, said he did not want to play for the Panthers....and now he talks like the only reason he is not in Carolina is that the team did not make an offer? Sorry, that makes no sense to me. Why is he trying to play the victim? He also acted like he was a victim when he was here....was not used to his potential...

So he did not want to be here, but he did want to be here? Blaming someone else for poor performance, jumping ship, etc. In the mental health world we would begin to suspect a personality disorder.

exactly.

he's trying to save face now (for what reason i don't know) but he did plenty to make himself look like a bad guy. he said he didn't want to be here. he made it very well known that he wanted to go play somewhere else. he made it known that he wasn't trying while he was here but he wants to put a better effort in chitown....you guys are just feeding too hard on the panther hate right now and buying into this crap that peppers is spewing. you guys are way too butt hurt over what is going on this year to realize you guys are getting played by peppers. he wanted to leave. he wasn't happy here. he didn't want the money or the contract. all of that was made clear.

why pretend that it is any other way? whether the panthers offered him the contract right before he left or not...do you really think he would have signed it? you are delusional if you think he was seriously considering it.

there are plenty of reasons to be pissed at the FO and even JR this year, but the peppers deal isn't one of them. only thing you should be pissed about in that whole deal is that we didn't trade him away when we had a chance.

We made him 2 offers and he ignored both of them, then he said he wanted to leave.

We tagged him and at the end of last season he said he wanted to stay, then we ignored him.

Sounds perfectly fair to me.

He doesn't seem to understand that if you want to be treated with courtesy you have to treat others with courtesy. Ignoring contract offers is not courteous, calling ESPN to tell them you want out is not courteous.

Funny things. There's always two sides of flat coin. Our group memory is short and seems to get shorter as time passes. And most of these guys are well overpaid.

What I heard on TV from Peppers was he wanted more money, he didn't like the defensive plan that the Panthers used and he wanted a chance for a ring. Granted any players career could be over the next play but 21 million? The other side of that coin is the Panthers FO are users and abusers and pretty much A-holes. Not because of Peppers but because of the way they've treated past performers like K. Greene, N. Goins, S. Beuerlein (I still can't spell his name without looking it up.) and the way way they keep idiots like DAn Hanning, "Batuka" (ain't even going to try and spell his right.) K. Collins etc. And the way they've completely ignored protecting their "valued" players by NEVER having an O-line speaks volumes. Never understood what he was talking about the D-plan. When he performed he got play time and sacks. Granted the center of the field has ALWAYS been a soft spot. Maybe that ground his gears? If he wanted a SB Ring I don't think "Da Bears" was the place to go.

Short group memories not only apply in football but about everything else from football to politics. That's scary to me. It makes it easy for us to accept lies. That's why history repeats itself.

What the FO has squandered on idiots like the above mentioned and others could have been put to better use, like an O-line. We'd of had better results through the years if the money had been put where it should have been. Government and Panther's football are quite a bit alike.

Before he left he stated that he was waiting for a call from the front office. This is not the first time I heard this. Plus why would he want to save face for? You fans wanted him out...He probably dont care what you think.

Pep started this problem....

He was offered 2 contracts to make him the highest paid D player

He did not respond

He went public and said he wanted out of Carolina

Carolina was not using his skills correctly

When franchised (paying him $1million per game)....he did not sign his tender for quite sometime, making the Panthers ability to deal him nearly impossible

Panthers fans loved Pep until he said he did not want to be here (yes there were frustrations....remember the seasons he had, what...2 sacks all year??)

He wanted out. He got out. What is his problem?

So, now Pep wants to be the victim. Sorry, I don't buy it. Sounds pathological to me. A lot of people want to bash the Panthers front office now and add the Pep, "they didn't call me" to the list. It is not logical.
