a player invests 20 ish years of their life getting good enough to play, not doing other things because obviously football is time consuming, then sacrifices countless years of health on the back end. And the overwhelming majority of this is done through schools and parents that get nothing from the NFL.

Without millions doing this to produce the small number of NFL players the owners would have nothing.

If you're not able to recognize time and health as an investment I don't know what to tell you.

For every player who makes it to the NFL after years of physical sacrifice there are thousands more who never even sniff a practice squad. Thousands more who through blood, sweat and tears were just as competitive college athletes but who earned a degree and went on to other career paths.

All time and bodily sacrifice prior to entering into an NFL contract is completely by choice and is not a business investment, if it were the world is full of failed amateur athlete businessmen. It is through stupidity only that I feel athletes mortgage their future on a sole hope of being a professional athlete. All it takes is one injury and its game over.

fyi, I'm not supporting the owners, just explaining why they are fighting for what they are. The NFL should not be viewed as strictly a business proposition. I'm a PSL owner and pissed at JR for what he's doing.

Got to look at it from there prospective. The Players right now are making more money then the Owners. Not much more but more none the less.

Thats like Jarrett from Subway making more money then Subway itself.

Yea we are pissed and should be but they do have a point.

NFL profit by team

Note the panthers are worth $1B and JR paid $200M

He also pays out over $100M annually towards player salaries, and who knows how much on advertising, maintenance, staff salaries, etc. etc. etc...

Not defending him, but the profit margin is a lot less than the $1B-200M quote is showing...

JR has not made 800million in profit, if that's what your implying then I laugh in your general direction. He has had to continually reinvest into the business in order to grow it's net worth. While we don't know his true profit it's not what your implying it is.

I understand that but that's where a college degree comes in place. God forbid an athlete doing what u say but also working hard in academics for something to fall back on.

Payroll should be about 25-35% in the best of situations .

There aren't many owners taking home 30-40% of revenue outside of organized crime.

JR may have a team worth 1B he paid for 200M, but again, HE took a lot of the risks in paying that much to establish a franchise. The players didn't risk poo by him opening up in an expansion market. I'm not on either side, but I am a free market guy, so I firmly believe those who take the most risks and reap the rewards should not be punished for doing so. The players get paid a lot because of the risk of injury and short life span of their careers and they get compensated appropriately. I took a risk of shelling out more than 60K for a bachelors degree without any guarantee that I'd ever make enough to repay the loan, but now I don't feel bad about those who make minimum wage when I make a pretty good amount because I took a risk and they didn't do squat. I'm not saying none of them did, but the vast majority of minimum wage earners are not college educated.
