do you have a problem with this? the nfl has the largest active rosters and unlike the NFL, MLB, or NBA, the owners don't have to pay for developmental leagues like the Minor Leagues, developmental leagues in europe and the Caribbean, etc.

They get all that done for free through the Universities. Literally the NFL is the only sports league in the world that doesn't pay for a developmental league.

I didn't say the higher level payout is bad. But I don't have a problem with the owners wanting to bring it down a few percent. As the revenue increases with the expansion of an 18-game season, the players will never see a difference.

Oh... that's right, they don't want to play 18 game either... even though they would be cutting the preseason down 2 games (which would mean they play about 1 quarter more)

lol oh my god someone buying the right to print money, which is what the NFL is, might have to pay a higher overhead pegged to the rising value of what he's purchased.

Missed the point entirely.

When someone sells out of their investment, they no longer profit from the business.

It's like saying "Oh... it's ok that you pay higher taxes on your house, because you'll make make money when you sell it". The two have nothing to do with one another, because while I might make some money when I sell, I no longer own the house, and the guy buying in will have to pay that same high tax I had to pay PLUS have to spend more on the same house. That whole argument is a strawman.

boy i can't wait to see jeff garcia throwing bombs to javon walker that's going to be great.

He could put on a Clausen jersey, and Walker could put on a Gettis jersey and we wouldn't know any difference. It would still be football (and probably the same level of football, if not better, than we're seeing in Carolina right now)

I didn't say monopolies have never existed. A monopoly cannot exist when there are viable alternatives. The NFL resembles an ologopy more than a monopoly.

WHAT? Where are the other viable markets? The UFL? The AFL? The CFL?

Please.

Next you're going to be saying that the NFL is going to be taken over by the XFL.

Seriously I'm keeping track of everyone supporting the owners and I promise you'll be the first against the wall you worthless class traitors.

I would rather pay lower ticket prices. Fix the rookie scale and help the retired players and I will be happy. Owners dont make as much as you think. Players on the other hand are raking in the money the last CBA deal tilted everything to the players. They both will find a happy medium but it wont be until after the season and right near the deadline. To take sides is pretty redicules because no matter who wins the fans get screwed.

Yes, that's correct. The alternative may be inferior to the original product desired, but that doesn't mean it's not an alternative.

That's like saying fictional water company Monopoly Water isn't a monopoly because you can buy liquid feces from this other company.

where is there a viable alternate? NBA? me being a panther fan doesnt mean I will suddenly watch the bobcats more...just isn't going to happen.

Nope NBA is going to have a lockout in 2011 too. NHL is going to reap a big reward if both the NBA and NFL are lockedout. But in the case of the NBA they defiantly are losing money.

The other teams. The NFL is not a commodity. Each team is. Just because you don't like the other teams doesn't mean that there is a monopoly.

Crispy Creme has a Donut monopoly!!!! I just hate Dunkin Donuts...MONOPOLY I TELL YOU!@!
