An unbiased look at Clausen

That is the thing. When he was drafted people did say he was the most NFL ready. Now after seeing him play and all the mistakes, poor accuracy etc, people are beginning to retract all that like the OP article. Who has heard people gush about him or say he is doing well. Most of the folks are being gracious saying he is a rookie and making rookie mistakes and now all the praise is going to Bradford.

Bradford looked awful in the preseason. It wasn't until his third start that he began to figure things out.

You continue to make my point that with better preparation like Bradford Clausen would have ironed out a lot of the rookie mistakes before being thrown into the fire.

well, Jimmy looked awful in preseason as well. Jimmy has his 3rd start coming up....soon this prep excuse can't be used.

what are the paid professionals missing that you aren't? he went from third string to first, showed progress last week. are you expecting peyton manning this weekend? bradford is top 3 in the league in turnovers (behind two 0-4 QBs) but apparently he is doing great things.

wait i get it. the panthers are not 2-2 so there is anger. the quarterback is who the simpler fans look to blame when the wins aren't stacking up.

I am expecting a rookie that will look bad....like he has. Nothing wrong with that as that is the norm even with guys who turn out to be great.

the only issue is people trying to pass off his performance as something other than bad.

We are actually have a decent discussion here. This is not trolling at all. Apparently this board has so much poor discussion and back and forth, that many members have forgotten the difference.
your fault. you troll so much that it's hard to distinguish it from anything else you do.

He will play this week. Lets see what happens. I think we are all hoping he continues to improve and do better. Just because the improvements have been very little doesn't mean it won't. We need to see if he is the future for sure with a likely high draft coming next year. I just hope it doesn't take a year or 2 to figure it out. I surely hope we don't end up like the Rams.

Obviously you are one that doesn't know the difference. I rarely if ever troll on any board and outside of a few comments about Clausen discuss football at a much higher level than you do. So you have very little room to criticize anyone else or judge the quality of my posts.

Fair enough. I'm not going to claim anyone on an 0-4 team is playing other than bad. But the thread was started with the implication that he is not NFL ready. I disagree with that. He's meeting expectations and showing progress.

I see your point P55 Clausen does suck but, unfortunetly, he is light years ahead of Matt Moore so at this point he is our only hope ;)

And that is probably the biggest disappointment. I wasn't on the Moore bandwagon at all last year but warmed up to him not when he won 4 out of 5 games but when starting in the offseason he actually started taking a leadership role, watching film, and acting like a quarterback should have all along.

It has been very disappointing to see him play so poorly this year. I had hopes that Clausen would get time to watch and learn. As I said a month or two ago, if Jimmy is starting we are in world of hurt and we are. I feared we would be pretty bad this year but hoped I was wrong and things would be better than expected. Unfortunately not. The next issue is whether these guys continue to fight and try or mail it in if we continue to lose. My fear with a bunch of rookies and inexperienced guys is that they will not know how to fight through this losing streak and turn things around. If we can win a game or two it will do alot to keep that from happening.

Perhaps the best thing from Clausen this year is that at least he works hard at wanting to improve and studies film and shows the effort. Maybe it will pay off in the end.

Clausen needs to imporve no doubts all we can do is hope that he does. So far there has been a little imporvement each week, as long as that continues I'll be happy.

I was hoping Clausen would have some time on the bench as well...I wish he had a Veteran QB to mentor him. We got neither so here we are!

NFL ready depends on your standard. For me it means he is ready to start, play at a high level and win games for his team. It means he doesn't make rookie mistakes, he does lead his team and understand the nuances of the game. As such most every rookie is not NFL ready. Some never are. Guys like Jamarcus Russell were in the league for years but were never NFL ready.

He is playing in the league yes, but he is not a starting caliber quarterback by any means. That is what I interpret they were saying by NFl ready. You obviously have a much lower standard which doesn't make you wrong, it is just a different standard being used.

Is it win games for his team, or not make rookie mistakes that defines player as "not nfl ready"? Those two need not go hand in hand. For Clausen, they have so far, though he also corrects many of his mistakes. What about our other players who are making mistakes and aren't rookies? Are they not NFL ready?

Perhaps there is a trend here. Clausen is not the broken cog in a perfect machine. His play has been typical of the vast majority of Panthers this season: mediocre save for a few plays (we can argue about them all we want, but let's agree he's had some plays that stand out, good and bad). Mediocrity rarely wins games in the NFL.

imo, we're barking up the wrong tree at this point, and we all know it. We can discuss Clausen for an eternity, but as long as he is working with this staff, we will have no real idea of what he is capable of. Even if he starts lighting it up, what will that mean? Moore did the last few games of last year and look how that turned out. Let's give the guy some time, then decide if he sucks. Some of us think he has played okay. Some think he has played well. Others think he has played terrible. Either way, at least he's playing.
