An unbiased look at Clausen

He did get reps with the 1s. A lot of them. Our current ones , LaFell and Gettis were our 2s and 3s in camp and preseason where he played much of the time.

Why do people keep saying he didn't get time with them, he got the majority of the time with them.

How many reps did he get against the 1s on defense. How about preseason games?

You get the picture.

I don't think that really matters much. Teams didn't gameplan and it wasn't as if they would see the same things from the 1s or 2sn on defense in preseason like they would during the season. Playing with your offense is much more important and he got plenty of time to do that. As for playing against our 1s on defense, most of the time the first team defense plays against the second team offense so yeah he got plenty of work. During the regular season the first defense plays alot against the practice squad who emulate the opponent plays

It is okay to say he sucks right now and can't read defenses. As a rookie few if any guys can. There is no need to defend him. If he came out and played well he would be exception not the rule.

It is also okay to say that he would have benefited by getting reps against starting NFL defenses. Just think all those weeks in the summer debating whether hunter cantwell should have been moore's backup, the rams were grooming their rookie for action week 1. Preparation matters.

Not as much as you would think. He got plenty of playing time in preseason.

Again why all the excuses. He is going to be pretty bad all year even after he sees a bunch of different defenses. One or two more quarters or games won't make that much of a difference. Each week is against a different team and defense. The biggest advantage he has this week is another home game and perfect weather. Should help.

well he is only scanning the field when plays breakdown and he moves out of the pocket. Otherwise it is his first read 99% of the time.

but I will do my positives. Overall, I think Jimmy has the ability to throw some of the best short to mid range balls we have seen in Carolina....once he calms down some more. He isn't comfortable enough imo to play to his strengths yet....that should come soon.

he is good in the pocket in sensing trouble......better than anyone we have seen.

Should I take your word for Jimmy Clausen throwing to his first read 99% or is there some facts that I can look at. Oh let me guess...the facts to look at is what you see with your own eyes?

watch a game you have DVR'd. He comes out of the snap and then stares down a WR. You don't need game tape to watch him stare down guys right out of the snap. He either throws the ball, scrambles out of the pocket or quickly goes to a check down.

like I told the other poster, find me one play where it shows him making reads while in the pocket and hitting something other than a RB checkdown. That should be a simple enough request. If you pay attention to him locking on to one guy immediately it becomes glaring. He does look for guys when he gets out the pocket....and he is quick to get out.

No excuses, just responding to a thread saying Clausen is not NFL ready. He played well enough for the Panther's to win vs the Saints. Would have played better had they declared him the starter from Day 1.

In preseason he was looking around well. Also, I may be mistaken here but, I think he was looking around pretty well the first game he came into when the offense was pinned behind the five.

NO he didn't play well enough to win. We had no points in the 4th quarter which is your money quarter. Truth is that NO let us hang around or it wouldn't be close. 10 first downs is not going to win any games. The reality is that I told all of you that if Clausen started this year we were in a world of hurt and we are. He was nowhere ready to start and won't be for months. And even if he played better from week 1 it isn't enough to win.

Don't know why it so hard to see. He sucks and the team sucks. It isn't his fault. He just got thrown in too soon and is doing the best he can at this point.

I hope you can judge QB talent better than WR talent.

all I said about Jarrett was he wasn't the kid the board tried to paint him as. I had a list of things he did poorly.

he wasn't on the field to prove half the claims about him. I had no problem w/ people claiming he was slow, couldn't get off the jam, wasn't aggressive w/ his big body. He did somethings well and somethings poorly. Like all players. However, at one point Jarrett became the scapegoat for other problems. As long as Fox is here.....other WRs will get bashed for their own problems and take on ones they don't really deserve.

I am only commenting about what guys do on Sunday.

i wouldnt expect that for a while. we have the absolute worst WRs the league has seen in the past 30 years... at least until smith comes back, and even then, its not too good.

the truth is that yes, jimmy is making some rookie mistakes, as expected.

but, my god... look what he has to work with.

1. he wasnt working with the starters in camp

2. our o-line isnt protecting him well

3. we have the worst WRs i have ever seen. the are all rookies, and a few of them suck, rookie or not.

4. our run-game is failing, so all the pressure is on jimmy to succeed all by himself.

these are the same reasons that caused matt moore to fold, and now jimmy is dealing with them, trying to work with what he has. at least give the boy the rest of the season, and hopefully, jerry will spend some money next year, and buy clausen some legitimate weapons to work with.

1. Clausen was working with starters in camp. LaFell, Gettis, the trio of TEs. Smith wasn't really avaliable for any QB the overhwelming majority of the time. The OL is different and he has better RBs. Not sure he is working in the hole people are trying to paint.

2. The OL is a numbers game. They won't protect better until the offenses forces the numbers to change. The blueprint is set now to play against Carolina. Play the run and short stuff........until a QB hangs in hurts someone or Fox changes this playaction scheme.....the OL is doing as good as they really can.
