An unbiased look at Clausen

b/c until Clausen gets comfortable to really start looking downfield and trying to make plays.....we won't know if he is better than Moore. Jimmy is trying to play safe and Jimmy is trying to understand the NFL QB position.......

the so called Moore fanboys support Jimmy. The Jimmy fanboys are simply claiming Jimmy is a few steps ahead of where he is....

Hmm. I don't see this. He's practiced with the starters for 2.5 weeks and played 2 games. He made some mistakes against the Saints but also had the Panther's leading into the 4th with a good shot at winning the game. If you were betting on Carolina you were very happy. They played better than they were supposed to play.

For all the "clock management" issues, D-Will's cut back was the worst play of the last drive. No one is saying he's not NFL ready because of it. No one is saying Bradford is not NFL ready even though he is a pick throwing machine. If there weren't 10 million of these articles on Clausen all throughout college I would put more stock in them.

This is hilarious.

Ok I gotta ask. Who is the babe in your sig? I need a name to google.

On topic, Jimmy is doing well for a rookie that had no training camp with the starters. He's gonna take his lumps learning the NFL game. Give him a chance.

The article is spot on. Clausen does not look like an NFL QB quite yet. Pretty sloppy compared to most...if you are comparing him to what you want to see in an NFL starter.

We are assuming his mistakes are due to being a rookie and having a beaten up squad around him. We are assuming he is going to develop into a quality QB

Happy to watch and see how it plays out

you don't see what? A rookie struggling w/ the NFL QB position (game speed)? You don't see a kid more focused on not hurting the team than looking to make plays?

Bradford is currently significantly ahead of Clausen. Watch an entire Rams game.....he is imo is the best looking rookie in years thus far. Can't recall a rookie who looked this good in his first 4 NFL starts....not talking just stats or wins.

folks clausen has played & is playing like a rookie. alot of points made by pro & anti clausen folks are valid. right now jimmy is playing it safe, he did screw up our best chance to win a game period. that doesn't mean he won't be good, i've got the feeling that jimmy's stock will go way up or down on this board on game to game basis. bradford does look better at the moment but doesn't hurt when you've played bottom of league defenses either

i didn't see anything that was incorrect in there. he's a rookie and he's playing like one. it's going to take time for him to catch up. he improved from his first week to last week (anyone thinking he didn't is delusional or in denial) but he still has a way to go before he is up to speed (anyone thinking he isn't is delusional or in denial).

one thing that is a problem and that has been a problem for a long time is the speed at which davidson gets the plays out to the QB. that has been going on for a couple years. the headset problems he had didn't help matters much and i can understand being flustered with that going on, all the noise, the pressure of your second NFL start...clock management is just another thing to throw in there that has to be dealt with. and it will be.

i'm not convinced that calling the time out when smith did was the best thing to do...5 yards back vs. losing a second timeout? i don't know.

i do agree with catdaddy that it would be better to give clausen a group of plays to call instead of trying to get in his head before each play what they want him to do. there has to be some better way to deal with the slowness that is davidson. imo, he has just as much or more of a problem watching the clock as anyone. you shouldn't have to burn timeouts while your OC is flustered trying to figure out what to call next.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
