Wow you did not pay attention at what I said at all. Didn't I just elaborate that we wouldn't be interested in him? The point is, I'm not sure he would be successful like you guys are DEAD sure he's absolutely going to fail..

We'll see.

Oh yeah I didn't realize trying to get a QB would be a "franchise crippling move". Yea, the Giants, Steelers, Colts, Redskins, Eagles, etc, yea they all made franchise crippling moves with those high-salary QBs didn't they? All those teams end up on the bottom of the league don't they?.

Please don't compare the Mannings, Big Ben, McNabb, etc. to Matt Cassel. To suggest that he's in their league after one season in the Pats system is ridiculous....and he's going to command a salary from desparate teams in the neighborhood of salaries that those guys are getting.

"spending money more wisely"? what a crock. Yea, lets throw more money at a defense whose scheme fails no matter how much talent you can have, because we already have more talent than the average defense, we just need more because they finish in the bottom half every year.

Ask Raiders fans if spending money more wisely is a crock. Redskins fans will probably agree too. Spending a bunch of money and/or trading draft picks for free agents who are marginally talented players doesn't and hasn't equated to success. All of the teams that you named above built their team around the draft (except the Redskins, who in recent years don't belong in the class with the teams that you mentioned).

Well excuse me but this forum has a strong contingent of people who think that getting any QB that costs more than a 5th round pick is assuming too much of a risk. That and we can apparently find Jake Delhommes from a pile of losers so easy.

You just twisted my words here. "Spending money more wisely" means you actually think that there are better areas to bolster than one with a 34 year old with a bionic elbow, a journeyman QB at best, and an undrafted free agent that beat the Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Bucs practice squad the last week of the season.

Cassel's learned a lot and turned up a 3600 yard season after never starting even a college game. You guys are just trying to take everything away from him and give him no credit. Belichick had a lot to do with his development, but he wasn't the one throwing the f*cking passes on the field, and I don't think he would be starting at all if everybody had to pick up his slack and he was as inept as everybody in this thread says he is.

Trade Peppers and a late draft pick to KC for The 5th overall pick and Tony Gonzalez. I know the Cheifs may not be willing to part with either piece, but it does make sense unless they rather go after Cassel.

They could use a Vetren DL playmaker to add to their young D and replace J Allen. Also Tony still wants a trade out of KC to a contender. We unload Peppers get the 5th pick and a great but aging TE. I think he could have at least 2 very productive yrs left.

if he doesn't block Foxy won't be interested. I'd rather get another draft pick rather than a guy who, although he is very good now, is on his way down and will be out of the league in a couple years.

KC would be idiots to give up the 5th overall pick for Pep..

i dont want Gonzalez anyway.. we shud trade Pep for a package of picks.. if we can get a 1st and a 3rd or a 2nd and two 3rds or sumthin..

agreed... unless we can get a deal for a player of similar value on the DL... which I doubt will happen...

How about a trade with Cleveland for Derek Anderson and a draft pick?

Derek is young, 4 years in the league, 6'6" 235lbs. Has a cannon for an arm and I feel has a lot of room to improve and to be coached to be a better player.

He has only played in 31 games his whole career. He only has room to improve

we have much more glaring needs on the defensive side of the ball...

specifically the DL...

they have to trade Pep with the mindset of improving the defense...

Nice tag Panthro......I know that's got to be yours...:P

RB, I can't speak for X-Clown but the fact that they would likely want a pretty high pick or picks for him in a trade if he is franchised (as I think he will be) and he likely would command a pretty good amount of money in a contract isn't really a risk that a lot of teams are in a position to take. Were he simply to become a FA, that might be a different story because then a team would be dealing simply with the dollars.

The Pats would rather promote from within staff wise and develop players in their system than go outside and bring in a QB who would have no knowledge of their system especially in that situation they were in at the beginning of the year with Brady's injury. Cassel was so bad in preseason a lot of people didn't even think he would make it out of TC. There really was no precedent to think he COULD do the job before he was thrown in there. His game appearances in the regular season did not inspire a ton of confidence either. Cassel has good measurables and is athletic and capable so I do think he will do a nice job elsewhere, but I can understand the skepticism as well since he did have a nice bunch of skill guys on O last year.
