Interesting Article on Panthers at BlecherReport

ehh, the Panthers did go after upgrade players in FA before. It's not as if they ignore bringing in any talent via FA. Just this season :( heh.

Right.

But the main reason he is doing this is the lockout in my opinion.

The real test will be what he does after all this gets settled. With new draft picks and JR flush with cash we should be able to return to greatness quickly. and the fanbase will start getting impatient after an 0-16 season and no football in 2011.

Good read. People are starting to see Jerry Richardson is not motivated by winning and more motivated by money and rubbing elbows with his NFL owner buddies.

No, all of the idiots here who know nothing are assuming that JR is not motivated to win.

Dumbest thing you have ever said....and that is saying a lot.

f**king retarded.

Anyone who didn't think that JR was ever in this for the money but "for the love of the fans" (or some such romantic bullshit) needs to be taken out back and shot.

Every NFL owner is in it for the damn money.

Its the same reason anybody does just about anything.

Do you think the plummer that comes to your house to fix your clogged shitter is in it "for the toilets"? f**k no. He does it because it is the best way he could find of seperating you and your cash. The same reason JR started an NFL franchise, it was a damn good way for him to make money.

If you don't like it, don't watch it. Just don't sit there and bitch that JR is raking in the cash instead of bleeding green bills out of his ass, so that you may be better entertained.

The simple fact is this: we are a relatively young franchise that has still not really established an identity within the league, JR has never been afraid to spend money on salary, we have had a pretty good deal of success over the last 15 years, and every team in the league goes through ups and downs.

Right now we are in a downward trend. We have been since about '05 (yes we made the NFCCG), should have started stock-piling picks and talent then for continued future success. Instead, being a bit newer at this and not have an identity or a past to fall back on and look to, JR and co. kept trying to bandage every year and hit home runs in the first 2 rds. then looking for good role players in the later rounds. They got their heads out of their collective ass last year and it is rough going this year but it bodes well for the future.

There are many owners who are not necessarily in it for the money...but for the drive to win.

But, at the end of the day it is STILL a business.

These owners have millions and millions of dollars invested in these teams. Any fan who thinks that they should not care about their money are dillusional as well.

Owners already have money. I think there are other variables involved. If anything, its a power grab and the thrill of owning a pro sports team.

Most of these guys are geniuses and could find other ways to make a couple million bucks. Also, for the last several years the Panthers had been top 5 in salary cap, if my memory serves me

Even if it is about the money, I am willing to give JR a pass for ONE season.

This "greedy ole senile" brought you the Panthers.

Let's give Clowney a chance before we all start jumping off the cliff. This team is young and very talented. Given the circumstances of the labor issues, I believe the team is set up long term as long as we keep the core group together. Everyone needs to get a life and give the guys our support. We may be missing a few pieces or we just might be missing some experience. I prefer to believe the latter.
