So if you have a Dell, dont trust the service tags

Wifes computer went on the fritz, so we had to reinstall everything, which we did. After we got it all installed, everything worked but the wireless card.

Couldnt figure out why the driver wouldnt install. Always got incompatible hardware error message...tried all kinds of things.

For those who arent familiar, Dell.com automatically reads the service tag and tells you whats in the computer and what drivers you need. Which i downloaded and tried to install multiple times. Still wouldnt work.

I poured thru every interweb article and msg board i could google, and tried everything. Yesterday, i went into the BIOS menu to change something, and went thru all the equip. I noticed under wireless adapter it said Atheros.

I thought that was weird since it was supposed to be Dell WLAN Mini 1397. So today, i did some research and went back to Dell and searched for Atheros driver...found a bunch, and found one for her computer. DLoaded and installed and voila, it works fine....

The drivers on the driver disc they sent didnt work either.

that really pisses me off. I should let dell know that their service tags are bullpoo.
