David Clowney picked up by Panthers

We're turning into the Raiders. Speed doesn't solve everything, you know.

With that said, I wish Clowney the best of luck. I just don't think he's the playmaker many of you think or want him to be.

He's not, but we needed a WR and what else was out there?

Not attributing this to you, but Moss wouldn't have signed here. We could have spent a third to rent him for a year, at which point the same people whining now would start screaming about the stupid FO burning another pick.

Vincent Jackson isn't going to happen, wants to get PAID and has just as many DUIs as the receiver we just let go. Three drinks away from a year long suspension. Holding out from his current team because wah I want a new contract. TOTALLY a Carolina type of player.

I mean, seriously, our options were:

UDFA rookie WR on our practice squad

Rookie WR making a conversion from QB

4th year WR without much playing time

I doubt Clowney blows up, but he's probably already better than any receiver we have on roster not named Smith. Sad, but true.

I'd say we're turning into the Colts, at least defensively (and no shock, there).

One of my fears when Meeks came in was that we'd adapt completely to that style and get pushed around in the run game. At first, that didn't happen, but with Kemo and other wide-bodies let go and our current set of DTs, it's looking more likely.

On offense, we're pretty much the same team we've been for a while style-wise, but with much younger (and less experienced) guys running it.

i wasn't too thrilled with the idea of bringing him in from the start. i just haven't seen much to be impressed by. sure...he's fast and he has potential, but i'm tired of "potential". for once, can't we just have some proven commodity brought in as a WR? i'm not going to beat any dead horses.

he's here. jarrett's gone. this is the team we have. i hope it works.

one thing is for sure, with every move and poor coaching decision that is made, i grow more anxious for that day that fox/hurney are gone. i don't trust either one of them at all. it's more about proving a philosophy is right and sticking with it rather than doing what is best for the team and making them contenders this year and every year.

we traded our 2nd to draft armanti but the vikings only traded a 3rd for moss??? great deal

facepalm.

Do you people not get the situation at hand? We're in a re-building year. We're getting young projects, and turning them into something for the future.

We're not getting an over-the-hill wide receiver who has turned on every single franchise he's ever been in, and he's owed what, nine million dollars this season?

the only problem is that fox teams aren't built for speed. they are built for smashmouth football, war waged on the ground. they got players that are better suited for another game. fox and davidson i am convinced don't know how to adapt and i doubt they would be able to. both come from an old school that is becoming more and more irrelevant. they are out of their element.

sad thing is, some poor sucker team is going to hire fox and eventually realize the same thing. i'm just glad it's not going to be us stuck with him....at least i hope not.

I seriously doubt we'd have traded for Randy Moss in any year.

I agree. And personally, I'd rather not have Randy Moss. He's proven to be a hot-head, who speaks out about his teammates, his owners, his coaches, and everyone else, and he vanishes when he doesn't want to play. He's Terrell Owens Lite.

It goes back to the "team building philosophy" question we discussed a few weeks ago.

He's not the kind of player they want in the locker room.

the thing is i'm more upset and jealous of the pats than i am of the vikings for only getting moss for a 3rd.

they now have 2 picks in each of the first 4 rounds. they have also shown that they will go out and pick up the veteran players that will most be able to make an impact. hurney was right that most receivers that are very good will only be that good with their first team but we see randy moss and wes welker doing well on their 3rd and 2nd teams respectively. the ravens also have had success bringing in a vet receiver. first with mason and now they are going to have it with boldin. both teams draft well and choose their vet players well via FA or trade. It's a balanced approach that we have decided not to take. the panthers under fox and hurney have been a "just do one thing and keep doing it" organization. no balance. it constantly comes back to bite them in the butt and it's really showing it's flaws this year.

look at the examples of the pats and the ravens... that is how you build a team.

signed,

just plain frustrated
