than what Clausen is doing with his current supporting cast???

16

If you want me to give you the entire list I will but I don't think it matters much. The point is Clausen is a rookie and he is not able to do things that other experienced QB in the NFL are able to do, even the ones that are average.

However, that should in no way be a negative towards Clausen. If you had asked the same question two years ago when Matt Ryan and Joe Flaco were in their rookie seasons and their teams were going to the playoffs, I would have answered very similarly. There would have been a big number of QBs in the league that would have done a better job in Atlanta and Baltimore.

But both of those teams are even better now because of the experience those two QBs gained from their first year.

Another way to look at it, Clausen would be no better or worse of a QB if he was on any other team in the league (minus coaching).

Guys let's keep this in perspective.

You have nailed the fact that Clausen is a rookie playing with other rookies. He's here to build for the future and not win a Super Bowl this year.

But as far as how good he is, no there was no win last week but the Panthers almost beat the defending super bowl champs. If you bet money on the Panthers you were very happy. Clausen is making progress for his second start in professional football.

My biggest disappointment was that he never got time with the starters until a few weeks ago. If he had gotten the same prep as Bradford (FACT: he split reps with starters day 1 and took over fully when feely went down early in preseason) we may have won that game. That said, I don't think Bradford would have made the difference either. You could argue that he might have been more organized in the end, but you could also argue that Clausen isn't throwing nearly as many picks. End of day you are still looking at a loss.

I'd say at least 25.

Clausen has shown ability.

But he has also made rookie mistakes in every game.

He hasn't repeated any of them. Just different mistakes every game.

Watching last game, actually made me wonder if Matt would be better coming off the bench, than he did at the starting of the season. Matt had shown he can get it done in the past. Which is what makes his first two games all that more frustating.

ever heard of fumbles??

only peeps debating if Moore is better than Clausen still are clueless

plus matt threw 4 picks in less than 2 full games, Clausen has thrown 1 in 2 full starts. The TD thing goes back to supporting cast...against tampa Clausen had us driving when others fumbled

I recall Matt Moore throwing two 300+ yard games last season, against good defenses, and one, without Steve Smith for the last quarter, which Moore still moved the ball well. So who is clueless? Please.

I expect Clausen to be a better QB when he develops, but he is not there yet.

Stop with the "rookie" excuses. The non-uniform wearing members of this organization made the decision to put this team in a position that the original starting QB had a total of 7-8 NFL starts and 2 rooks behind him.

The non-uni wearing types also made the decision to go with a rook and at the end of the year when the Panthers finish 4-12 or whatever, there will be no asterisk (*) after those losses that indicate there was a rookie under center.

Nobody else in the NFL cares if the starting QB is a rook except Panther fans, who will find a way to justify this as a reason for a lousy season.

I think you meant "how many rookie QB's," not "how many QB's." Obviously Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Tom Brady, Matt Schaub, etc can do a better job than Clausen.

But if you meant taking the rookie years of manning, brees, rivers, and schaub, and comparing it to Clausen's rookie year given this supporting cast, I'd say Clausen is doing a pretty good job.

I was'nt suggesting that Clausen is a top tier qb right now. What I was suggesting that the dude is not playing horrible like some of the post I read before posting that. To me it just seems some people only look at the stats and think that tells the whole story.

Yeah I agree. I mean for him to have no turnovers last week (21 drop backs) is very impressive for a QB's 2nd start ever. I doubt many QB's can say they had a no-turnover game their rookie year.

To answer the question factually:

Among the top 30th active quarterbacks- Clausen is 30th in completion percentage-, 30th in yards per attempt. he is averaging .5 TDs a game which is also 30th, tied for last in passer rating.

His best stat is that he is only 28th in 1st down percentage.

Draw your own conclusions.
