If we sign a FA WR

Haven't we been over this? Edwards wasn't drafted to be an immediate contributor. Like it or not, he's a project. Why do we keep beating this dead horse? And even if that wasn't the case, how could you call a draft pick a bust after four games in the NFL when nobody else on the offense has made any contributions either?

truthfully i was hoping for gilyard. edwards only as a 5th rounder...4th at the earliest.

fox isn't a WR guy. sees the passing game as only something to help out the run game that is supposed to be the focus. i don't trust his ability to pick a WR.

that's why we need a new staff. this league is now a passing league with a running game to complement it. The run first mentality is long gone, same with his be physical and outplay but be vanilla defense.

It was an awful pick. Plain and simple.

We need DT's, OT's, CB's etc, those positions are well addressed in the 2nd rounds of the draft. Instead we took an athletic QB coming from a D2 school.

Prior to the draft out of your three listed concern areas only DT was considered a legitimate concern. No one expected what has transpired with our OT's to have happened.

Prior to the draft doesn't mean squat since we traded away next years 2nd to select him. It is about long term, not this season.

And for one second are you telling me that RG and possibly C on the O line do not need to be addressed?

Not to mention CB..good lord, Marshall is not under contract, and our nickle back is 5,7.

OL and CB are huge needs for this team, only dwarfed by DT.

It was a horrible choice to trade away future draft picks for "project" players....ala AE and Brown.

Doesn't "long term" and "project" kind of coincide?

Anyhow, the point is that you only have so many draft choices each year. Some are made to make immediate impacts while others are made for subsequent years. We HAD to address WR this year, it was perceived by many to be the one missing piece to our offense. We did this. We drafted Lafell, Gettis and Guy all players with College WR experience and took a flyer on Edwards as a project.

We drafted some DB's late in the draft like usual and if things don't pan out it will be addressed year to year. So look for CB's to be big on next years board if things continue as they are, along with OL depth.

Your sceaming about immediate needs but at the same time pandering for draft picks for the future. Can't have both. Marshall isn't under contract for next year, but he is for this year. He was here we can draft a replacement next year if we feel the need. You see how this works?

Of course I wouldn't consider him a failure. I didn't expect him to really play at all this season, as he's going to need a lot of time to learn a completely new position.

Having two receivers out (one of which barely saw the field anyway) doesn't change the fact that Edwards just isn't ready right now. If Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen went down, do you think we'd start Tony Pike or go after someone else?

Where he was drafted has nothing to do with if he's ready to play or not. Unfortunately, he'll always be judged in light of this.

I would'nt mind taking a look at Antonio Bryant. I mean the knee has to be fine now. He would bring big play cabability to the offense at the WR spot and when smitty gets back he would be a solid #2 guy to help take pressure off of smitty getting tripled teamed in coverage.
