How important was Mike McCoy

his QB workout was limited to throwing balls in a barrel. those who saw at OTAs and training camp can attest to this.

people were in awe of the amount of work that rip put into working with the QBs as far as form and footwork and a few other areas.

flat out, rip has done more with the QBs than mccoy. crediting jake's and smiths success on mccoy is a bit far fetched. crediting jake's demise with mccoy's exit is a bit on the far etched side of things as well. jake had this little surgery on his elbow... not sure if you heard about it, but that kind of helped to expose a lot of problems that he already had. it affected his overall performance. the only thing rip did was to try and get jake to think about what he was doing and that might have helped screw him up but the biggest thing that screwed jake up was his elbow and what was going on between his ears. losing mccoy just meant jake losing a friend. not much more than that.

also, what did mckid do in mew england? little reminder...he was the QB coach from 2004-2008 and the OC from 2006-2008. i'm thinking that he probably had as much or more impact on orton than mccoy. it's pretty well known that mckid is calling the offense and mccoy's job is to just help the offense do what the boss tells it to do. he's a glorified assistant coach/errand boy.

Dan Henning preferred to work directly with his quarterbacks. Under Henning, Mike McCoy wasn't much more than a go-between. Post-Henning he served more as a friend and sounding board to Delhomme than anything else. Now he's in Denver, serving essentially another figurehead position.

So the basic answer: Not that important at all.
