Clausen versus Weinke- a better comparison

We are up 14-13 in the third quarter. The other team has just scored to make it a 1 point game.

Quarterback 1 comes right back and scores a TD and then later on in the fourth quarter scores again on a field goal.

Quarterback 2 does nothing the rest of the game and doesn't move the ball into the red zone or even field goal range.

Both of them played as rookies for us and this was quarterback 1's first game while this was quarterback 2's second game.

Which one has more promise???

Quarterback 1 was Weinke in 2001 against the Vikings.

Quarterback 2 was Clausen against the Saints.

You can do this for any QB combination in the league. Its stupid, at this point, to say one way or another. Only thing that is certain is he has played better than Matt Moore did. You should go check out some of Peyton Mannings stats his first year starting. I think you might be surprised

Again a loss is a loss and he did nothing to win it when it counts.

It is sad when a franchise is down to the point where we count degrees of suckage. Clausen still played poorly when the game was on the line. Moore played 2 bad games this year but did well in the other 8. Clausen is still 0-2 and sucks under pressure.

And trust me Pickles will never be Peyton Manning so stop the ridiculous comparisons.

Or it could be that he is a rookie. Clausen obviously is still getting adjusted to the speed of the game, give him time. Let's see if he improves against a weaker foe at home this week before we cut him.

A lot of statistics are being chucked out as comparison, however anyone who has any grasp of maths would realise that no conclusions can be made from just two pieces of data. Add in there is no possible way to have a control group and you quickly realise that comparing ANY two players via statistics is a sure fire fail. Only until Clausen has completed a full season could you start to make comparisons with any sort of argument. Add in that QBs generally make their most improvement either after their rookie or 2nd year and you will realise it will only be a valid statistical analysis after 3 years of starting football.

What makes me shake my head, is that all through Delhommes meltdown season we had a ridiculously high percentage of fans stating we just need game manager and someone who does not make mistakes. Well, newsflash, Clausen is doing exactly that. Low and behold we now need someone who can make plays.

Anyone trying to make a judgement either way about this kid is a moron.

It really makes you wonder why Fox pretended Moore would be the starter for so long. If Moore was on such a short leash, why not let Clausen get proper practice?

Just goes to show you that when we have a decent team with veterans and skilled players, we need a game manager. With this bunch of inexperienced players we actually need a good quarterback. Or at least one like Delhomme who can win a game in the fourth quarter.

Problem is neither Moore or Clausen have shown they do any of those things right now.

Maybe you should wait until Clausen has actually won a game. In 3 games as a rookie Moore went 2-1 with no preseason or training camp. At the pace right now, Clausen will go 0-3. Hard to say that is better. So far Clausen has shown little to nothing whether he is the starter or not.
