Clausen versus Weinke- a better comparison

Rookie, Matt Moore - 3 starts. He had no time to work on his chemistry and etc. that people are claiming is handicapping Clausen.

- 2 picks

Smith - 22 receptions, 257 yards, 1 TD

what is Jimmy's excuse?

Excuse for what? He also has 2 picks and a TD

Are you saying he should just throw the ball to Smith all the time open or not? You mean LOCK onto one reciever?

I would rather have a QB that spreads the ball around like Breesus and Peyton!

You cry about Clausen "locking" in on a receiver then say he isn't locking in on Smith so its a bad thing?!

How about the fact it wasn't against terrible teams. I think 7 of the 8 teams he faced prior this season finished w/ winning records. 1 of those starters rested. Plenty of those teams had a lot to play for.

Jake and Moore locked onto Smitty. Clausen just looks at his first read.

Ummm no, dude wow!

Giants had the worst D in the league when Matt played them

NO sat their starters

TB...nuff said

one good win = Minn

If Clausen does lock onto his first read thank good he can read more than one side of the field

excuse for not being able to get Steve Smith the ball? He is not getting Smith the ball b/c he determines prior to the snap where the ball is going. If it ain't there he tucks and runs.

Pretty sure Smith had as many catches, if not more, than any reciever on the team and thats even with getting hurt!

Do you realize you are just pulling sh!t out of your arse right now?

Smith was thrown to and he caught a couple with like zero yards after the catch.

So what you're really saying is, you want him to Lock on to Steve Smith and never throw to anyone else? Becuase at this point, he is spreading the ball around and YES he is throwing to Smith as well

I'll make you a bet. I have every game on my dvr. Tell me one pass he completed where he looked at his first read and then went somewhere else.....while he stayed in the pocket. Do that and I will quit saying he just stares down his first read.

again, it can't be a play where he leaves the pocket.

Sure thing, I'll check out the games again tonight and point out several of them to you.

Ill update this thread tomorrow or later tonight after work!

totally off base - he clearly progresses through reads(Don't know about while in the pocket, considering hei s being flushed within 2-3 seconds it seems) and he does not just "tuck and run" if his first read isn't open(stupidest comment you've made yet, congrats, because he wasn't just tucking and running that game, he was making things happen with his legs - something people USED to say Moore was good at). He pulls the ball down and gains yard when nobody is open, but he surveys the field. He extends plays by scrambling, and his eyes are ALWAYS looking.

Smith is used to being force-fed the ball. Also, if you think Smith isn't the #1, #2, and #4 read on any pass play, you're wrong. Clausen knows what he has in Smith, but he also knows not to challenge double and triple coverage. And yes, he misses him when he's open sometimes since he rarely has time to let plays develop to where Smitty CAN get open.

If Jimmy can get the ball to everyone, defenses will be forced to respect everyone. If he only feeds Smith, defenses will be able to lock in on him, force turnovers, etc.

This is not to say clausen isn't making mistakes, 'cause he is. This is also not to say that Moore didn't get Smitty the ball, 'cause he did. But that is, unfortanately, all Moore could do. Clausen, at least yesterday, was able to spread the ball around and avoid turnovers.

Look, I loved moore last year and I had high hopes for him. He clearly did not handle the pressure of being a starter well. Also, about him "not having first team reps", when you're with a team for four years, you get reps with a guy even if you aren't the starter - much more than Clausen has gotten so far. Moore has taken reps with the first team before last season, and he played with Smitty in games prior to his starts, too.

I wish Moore the best, but this is Clausen's job to lose - and him losing it will have little to do with if Smith is happy or not.

edit: how many of his passes did he even complete FROM the pocket? It seemed like play after play was breaking down, and half the time he was throwing in the pocket he was taking a hit the second the ball released, or it was getting batted down. =(

Everyone is talking about Clausen versus Bradford but honestly what about Clausen against our very own Chris Weinke who was a fourth rounder who never developed.

Weinke game 1- 13-22 for 223 yards- 1TD- win against Minnesota

Weinke game 2- 27-41 for 276 yards- 0 TDs- loss to Atlanta

Clausen- game 1- 16-33 for 188 yards- 0TD- loss to Cincinnatti

Clausen game 2- 11-21 for 146 yards- 1TD- loss to the Saints.

Weinke's offense scored 20 points a game- Clausen's 10 points.

Look at who Weinke had around him- no better cast than Clausen, in fact you could argue it was worse.

Go back and look at Collins first 2 starts as well and you will clearly see that right now Clausen is the 3rd best rookie we have had start for us behind Weinke and Collins. And that doesn't bode that well for the future.

PLZ DON'T COMPARE ANYONE TO WEINKE I'M STILL TRYING TO FORGOT ABOUT THE DARK TIMES(AKA THE SEIFERT ERA):drool5:

2 starts

Smith targeted 8 times - 5 catches for 33 yards. A good portion of that amazing prodcution was late in the 4th quarter of the Bengals loss.

So what is the excuse for not getting Smith the ball?

2 wins.

Stats sheets don't always tell the full story. Clausen had a better QB rating than Brees 3/4 of the way through the game Sunday.....did that mean he was more impressive? You can't always evalute play by the a QB's stats. I mean Clausen had 90 QB rating on Sunday.....I think it is fair to say that probably suggests he was slightly better than he really looked.

Also, for what it is worth Flacco got into the endzone game 1.

Your argument was that flacco played lights out his first 2 games, and you were probably going off memory of his games later in the season than facts. Flacco might have played for the winning team those 2 games, but it was against teams that won 4 games each during the whole season.

sweet, and I will quit saying it if you can find me one example. That isn't a crazy request.

Like I said though, show me one pass he hit where he stayed in the pocket and went to his 2nd read.

The only thing you will be able to find if you are lucky is him going to a checkdown at RB directly after.

Give it up on both sides, clausen starts this week, we are off for the bye. Nothing to see here, fox does not listen to neither me or p55 to make his depth chart

Thats the truth. If Fox had listened to me he would have kept a lot of veterans. For that matter Fox would have agreed. Maybe the reality is that Hurney and Richardson are pulling the strings since Fox is gone after this year.
