Clausen versus Weinke- a better comparison

I gave a better example of a QB that fit the requested criteria.

you can't compare QBs and only talk about stat lines. That isn't backpedaling. Flacco looked surprisingly good his rookie season. So you are trying to say Clausen has looked better than Flacco did in 08?????????

I have to agree with u here, I have no clue why flacco is even in this thread. The guy is a proven winner.

Matt moore couldnt beat josh mccown for 2nd string in 09 , he has 600 more practices than clausen, matt moore looks as lost as clausen, if I was a betting man fox going 0 and 16 has a better chance at being a panther than matt moore next year

Reality is Moore gives us a better chance to win than Clausen right now. Screw the future. There is only the now!!

I'll never understand when people try to use the 'ol "some of his throws should have been intercepted" excuse when trying to discredit a qb.

Every qb, every week, has throws that should have been intercepted. Qbs thrive on blown coverages and other various mental mistakes of opposing defenses.

I understand what you are saying P55. And I agree quite a bit. I've made similar posts, but my point has been more to underscore the way people were heralding the "Jimmy Claussen Era" here in Carolina.

My point has been, and still is, Claussen hasn't done anything -- yet. He hasn't lit it up, he hasn't gotten control of the offense, he hasn't imposed his will on the opposing team, yet. In effect, he's a rookie, he hasn't "arrived" yet and he isn't showing signs that he's going to save us from a miserable season.

But then again, the point we all have to keep in mind is that he's just a kid. I have pairs of socks that are older than he is.

He may very well mature into a poised presence in the huddle and under center. He may eventually become one of the great passing QBs in the league or a real motivator for his teammates. Or he may not.

I'd love to say he deserves to be on the field right now. I'd love to be able to point to how he's growing as a QB, maturing before our very eyes. I'd like to be able to smile and say he's the future of the franchise, but in all honesty, he hasn't earned it.

But we have been having it rammed down our throats by some folks since he was drafted by us, usually with a passing smack at Jake Delhomme. And that's where it gets me the most. This is a "what have you done for me lately" league and it's easy to look at Jake's last couple of years and call the guy a bum or worse and then look at the promise Jimmy Claussen offers and say, "Yeah, this is the better guy."

But that ain't the whole story. Jake was a no-name with no pedigree when he came here and something just clicked. He was the kicked-around, never given a chance, dark horse guy that the fans and the team could believe in, because when he got the chance, he took it and ran with it. Accurate passer? Not by any normal standards. Great at avoiding the pass rush? Um, nope. Football scholar with a QB coach since he was 10? Don't think so. But man, he won some games, didn't he? And if the team was down by 14 points at the half, all of us fans held on because he had a knack for bringing us back for a win.

Claussen hasn't done that yet. And that's what it boils down to, he hasn't earned anything yet. He hasn't made me a believer that he's a winner yet. He may very well do so and I'll be cheering like mad when he does.

But until he has more wins as a starter than Weinke (and that's not a high mark to beat), I'm going to hold off on crowning the kid. Stats don't matter except for wins and losses.

Sherrod Martin couldn't beat out Charles Godfrey. DeAngelo couldn't beat out Foster.

Matt Moore was able to find Steve Smith. Look at Steve impact in games w/ Moore vs. Clausen this season. Look at Steve's impact in games in 2007 when Moore was a rookie vs. Clausen this season.

Everyone is talking about Clausen versus Bradford but honestly what about Clausen against our very own Chris Weinke who was a fourth rounder who never developed.

Weinke game 1- 13-22 for 223 yards- 1TD- win against Minnesota

Weinke game 2- 27-41 for 276 yards- 0 TDs- loss to Atlanta

Clausen- game 1- 16-33 for 188 yards- 0TD- loss to Cincinnatti

Clausen game 2- 11-21 for 146 yards- 1TD- loss to the Saints.

Weinke's offense scored 20 points a game- Clausen's 10 points.

Look at who Weinke had around him- no better cast than Clausen, in fact you could argue it was worse.

Go back and look at Collins first 2 starts as well and you will clearly see that right now Clausen is the 3rd best rookie we have had start for us behind Weinke and Collins. And that doesn't bode that well for the future.

So you are saying, that cause of his rookie stats through 2 games, he won't ever be a good QB?
