Despite all of the love of James Anderson here....

Anderson is finally playing to his potential. He's a really athletic guy and I think people forget that sometimes. Idk if he could take over for Davis because TD was a beast in his own right. My feeling is that someone will be getting traded.

Conner, TD, Beason, Anderson, 4 great LBs there. Anderson and TD are in their last years with us. So do you hope that TD comes back healthy? or do you resign Anderson and draft another LB early to take WLB.

He would have time to groom because we can play Beason at WLB for a while. However Beason belongs in the middle, Conner is a really great player but it's Beasons spot. Plus I think Jon can do everything just a little bit better than Dan. So after that season we can trade Conner for a high pick, put Beason back in the middle, have our heir at WLB, while Anderson continues to impress at SLB.

and yes I would like to be GM.

But I would love to have a healthy TD. Best cover LB in the game there.

Talent-wise, definitely up there, but what configuration?

Not entirely sure.

Connor does have a nose for the ball and takes on the running backs well enough. He may be best suited as a Sam. Beason was a pro bowl Mike. Davis was on his way to a pro bowl Will spot before injury.

Connor - Sam

Beason - Mike

Davis - Will

May be the best combination.

The defense did not play well. We gave up 400 yards of offense. Worse we missed a number of tackles so that a no name group of backs rushed for over 120 yards. If it weren't for 2 fumbles by the Saints we would have been down 24-7 at the half. Sure they were on the field all day but that was as much thier fault as anything. They gave up 27 first downs. They allowed the Saints to convert 60% of their third downs. Brees finished with 70% completion rate. If not for the fourth quarter when he missed 6 passes. He was set for a completion rate of 80%.

Our secondary was awful. We were flagged for interference penalties and could have been flagged for at least 3 more.

By comparison we had less than 300 yards offense with 118 running and 133 net yards passing. We converted 30% of our third downs.

Honestly the offense was awful and the passing game was poor. Most of those passing yards came on one busted play throw to Stewart. Otherwise he threw for around 75 yards. Truth is that this was an awful game and we played poorly. If it weren't for the Saints letting us hand around this game would have been decided by halftime.

The lack of clarity around here is amazing. Folks this is a bad team and this offense is the worse we have even fielded through 4 games. The worse ever!!!! Even Weinke was better than Clausen at this point. At the end of his first 2 games our offense was averaging twice what is in under Clausen.

Don't care if we gave up 4000 yards of offense. The only stat that really matters is points allowed. Holding New Orleans to 16 points is a major accomplishment for our defense.

Anderson was out of position a couple times, so was everyone else on defense. Never saw so many open receivers in a game, if not for the 2 Saint fumbles and their dropped passes, it's not even close. Anderson and Martin had the best performances on a really bad defense, Godfrey played well also. The problem with the defense, starts up front, which is pathetic at best. When Charles Johnson is our best player on the DL, that speaks volumes.

Our CB's seem to get beat on inside routes and don't know when to switch on "pick" plays, which NO runs to perfection. We really never stopped their offense and their play calling had us on our heels the entire game.

The Panthers were outcoached and outplayed on both sides of the ball. Anderson played the best of anyone on defense, don't see how anyone can deny that. (I can't see how adding TD, will improve the stongest part of the defense.) The LB position is not the problem on defense and WR/QB is not the problem on offense...it's the play up front on both sides of the ball. Lack of a pass rush/filling gaps by the DL and protecting the QB/run blocking by the OL = 4 losses.

Part of the responsibility of the SAM position is to cover the TE.

With that in mind, James Anderson has absolutely no business starting in the NFL at the SAM position. Worst coverage by a LB I've seen in Carolina ever. Both TB and NO killed us with the TE in the passing game. Anderson looked lost and confused every time he was assigned to cover the TE the past two games.

With that said, the dude just knows how to tackle and has a nose for playing the run. He's really more suited for the Mike or Will.

To go back to what Mr. Scot was mentioning, you need to look at what strengths each LB brings to the table. And while TD was putting up some insane numbers at the Will, he is able to cover TE just as good as any other LB in the league from the Sam and no other LB on the roster is able to even come close to playing the Sam as well as TD does.

IMO, you put Davis back at the Sam, Conner stays at the Mike and Beason at the Will. Anderson is a good player and showed he can have a great game but he just doesn't have the skill set that the other three have at those positions. Now if you are fan with the mindset that Beason needs to move back to the Mike then Anderson starts at the Will. But I just feel that so far Conner has proven to be just as able to play the Mike as Beason did, but thats just my opinion.

It was my understanding that Davis is supposed to play WLB? Isn't that the reason we moved Beason outside? Because he was the only LB capable of filling his shoes? And we had Conner so we wouldn't lose much at MLB.

Yes. He was the only one who could adjust to playing that position. And it took him few games in the preseason to do it. Remember how he got owned on few running plays early in the preseason.
