Something to Think About: Clausen vs Bradford

bradford essentially went into the offseason as the starting QB. everything in the offeseason and training camp leading up to the regular season, including all four preseason games went on with him as the starter.

clausen is at least a couple months behind bradford. they went into this season intending on moore being able to do the job for a year or two while they brought clausen along slowly. they changed course and clausen suddenly finds himself thrown into the starting role. give him a couple months and i doubt you will find as much separation between them. next year you won't find much at all.

I certainly hope you're right, the lack of reps with #1s at camp is a legitimate point...

I thought for most of camp AJ feely was the starter untill he got hurt??

Wasn't Bradford prepped for the starting role for much of TC? I mean, even when they were doing the "we don't know who will start" thing, they were still giving Bradford half or over half the reps with the 1st stringers.

I don't remember seeing Clausen getting a ton of reps with the first string guys back then, I remember all off-season and TC, it was the Matt Moore show.

That, and Bradford seems to be getting all day in his pocket compared to what the Panthers Oline is giving Clausen.

Not using any of it as an excuse, just saying.

Well I mean if your looking for a defense of Clausen... He's done something that Bradford has yet to do... Go a whole game without throwing an int...

That comparison can't even be close to made. Bradford throws much more, his first start he threw over 50 times. Clausen throws 20-30. Also, Bradford has done something Clausen hasn't yet: win.

found a link..going into camp Feely was the starter and Bradford did not start all 4 games..when Feely got hurt Bradford took over

A.J. Feeley will start ahead of No. 1 overall draft pick Sam Bradford in the Rams' second preseason game, although the rookie might get a few more plays

Bradford and veteran A.J. Feeley split the first- and second-team reps equally, a slight change designed to get more work for Feeley as the season approaches

Wins, like losses, are a team effort.

Seriously, I'm not sure the Panthers style of offense knows how to run it's system through the QB. We're a defense, run first, pass off play action team. For better or worse our system is set up to not LET the QB carry it on his shoulders for the most part.

I think they've told Bradford he's the man and they need him to make plays. I think we've told Clausen to just hand it off and play it safe. I think we get much better glimpses of Jimmy when he has to scramble and improvise because that's outside our conservative game plan.

Like it or not, we played Fox ball today. Defense led the team, RB's (tried) to carry the load and the QB didn't do anything to cost us the game. We stayed close and had a chance to win it in the end.

Because that mid-2nd round pick came into a way better situation than Bradford...plus what made Clausen a 2nd round pick was off the field stuff.

A way better situation? lol

Why don't we compare Clausen to the quarterback chosen closest to him in the draft this year....The Golden Calf of Bristol? Remind me, how's Timmy playing right now?
