We might just have something special here with Jimmy Clausen

Do you dipshits saying Clausen looked bad realize what he had to work with out there? He has literally DOWNGRADED from his COLLEGE receivers to his PRO receivers. Golden Tate and Michael Floyd >>>> Brandon LaFell and David Gettis. You could literally fly Tate from the Seahawks down to Charlotte and pluck Floyd off the Notre Dame campus tomorrow and you would have a better two receivers than the Panthers have right now. That's insane.

The man had NO offensive line and NO competent receivers out there that weren't being triple-teamed and had no receivers out there at all once 89 went down. And yet he STILL almost managed to win the game...on the road...against the defending Super Bowl champions...in his first ever start on the road. And yet people are saying he looked mediocre. Give me a freaking break.

I bashed the Clausen pick to holy hell back in April, but is looking like the only smart thing Marty Hurney has done in the past few years.

were you watching the game?? Take out the 1 play where the Saints simply gave him a gift in not covering Stewart.

10/20 for 91 yards. He struggled on the very first drive with something as simple as the playclock....and he did the same on the very last drive. During the game he locked on to his first read every single play (minus the busted coverage on Stewart when he went in to what is becoming standard scramble Clausen mode).....taking off to run often and throwing low balls into the DL. Clausen looks like a rookie QB that ain't ready to be thrown into the mix.

what was impressive about that?

He didn't turn the ball over....that was all I saw that was impressive.

And if he hadn't made the toss to Stewart, you'd be screaming that he missed an open guy, that a real NFL QB recognizes breaks in coverage and exploits them. And oh hey.. he's improved every game (that'd be the opposite trajectory of Moore, champ) against the SB champs and a really good Cincy D.

Look, everyone knows it hurts you that Moore sucks and is bad at football, but stop polluting threads with poo like this.

Matt Moore still gives us the best to win in 2010. Nothing suggests otherwise....definately not Clausens play and his lack of ability to make reads or get the ball to Steve Smith.

Sigh.. if only we could take away big plays to prove our points..

Completed 50% and his only TD was on a ridiculously blown coverage. No, he doesn't suck, but he did not do anything special today. That doesn't mean he doesn't have potential or promise, so try not to put words in peoples' mouths.

Yeah and a lot of Brees' passes were completed due to some blown coverages on our part. Can't really use that excuse one way or the other.

50% completion with our Oline is pretty good. :)

Clausen showed alot of promise today. Everyone always talks about how its a passing league and how we cant win without having an elite qb. Its ALWAYS gonna be a turnover league before anything else. Jimmy did a good job of protecting the football and id say thats progress. When we dont turn it over we win football games, plain and simple.

Matt Moore threw 3 of the worst redzone interceptions ive ever seen week 1, not even gonna go any farther about that scrub.

Moore had 1 bad game. When you are as young as Moore you are going to have some horrible games that young in your career. Moore's resume was good enough you don't bench him b/c of one bad game considering his young he is into his career.

Moore will stay in the pocket. Moore is willing to look downfield. It is obvious why Gantt and everyone reported Moore looked miles better than Clausen all year leading up to week 1. Clausen looks lost......but that should be expected.

Clausen locks on to his first target and if they aren't open immediately he pulls the ball down and scrambles. That is all Clausen has shown thus far.

Clausen wasn't terrible but wasn't great either. He was average and showed improvement from his first start. I won't overhype the pass to Jonathan Stewart, he should make that play in his sleep. He did have some nice throws and catches by the "rookie" WRs, but he has lots to improve as well and get Steve Smith involved more then just watching the playclock for him. He's gonna get better, but he needs more time and work with these receivers before he'll become decent or better as a QB. Right now, he's a rookie so try and cut him a little slack and try not to overhype him.

What are you talking about with Moore being young and being young in his career? Matt Moore is 26 years old and in his 4th year in the league. Jimmy Clausen just turned 23 and is in his rookie year.

Clausen needs to clean up his throwing motion with pressure his arm motion goes lower then normal which makes it look like a 5'10 QB is throwing the ball and under throws alot just like in college, look nervous on the last drive just like when he was a freshman in ND

One more needs to be more commanding in the huddle looked lost early with the delay of games

For grins & giggles last week (and since many were calling for Clausen's head after one game), I posted the QB ratings of some select QB's first four games in the NFL. Here's an update through the 2nd NFL start for Clausen.

Game 1

Steve Young – 77.2

Tom Brady – 62.9

Peyton Manning – 58.6

Jimmy Clausen – 53.6

Donovan McNabb – 44.9

Brett Favre – 41.7

Troy Aikman – 40.2

Terry Bradshaw – 19.3

John Elway – 0.0

Game 2

Brett Favre – 97.1

Jimmy Clausen - 90.6

Tom Brady – 79.6

Troy Aikman – 71.1

Terry Bradshaw – 61.5

Donovan McNabb – 60.4

John Elway – 58.8

Peyton Manning – 51.1

Steve Young – 29.8

Game 3

Brett Favre – 144.6

Donovan McNabb – 60.4

Tom Brady – 58.7

John Elway – 56.8

Peyton Manning – 39.3

Steve Young – 31.6

Terry Bradshaw – 29.6

Troy Aikman – 4.0

Game 4

Tom Brady – 93.4

Brett Favre – 90.8

Steve Young 70.6

Peyton Manning – 63.2

Troy Aikman – 39.6

Terry Bradshaw – 19,6

John Elway – 36.6

Donovan McNabb – 28.8

Lots of inconsistency on that list, which is expected. Hopefully Clausen just takes care of the little things and is studying his ass off while the Bears play tonight.

big plays are what Williams did on his run TD run. The Stewart pass was a gift from the Saints. They left him literally wideopen behind there coverage. It was the definition of a busted play and a gift.

Clausen didn't look good today. He looked like a rookie that needs time not playing to "get" NFL football. He locks onto his first read and scrambles every time it isn't there........we got lucky b/c on that play Clausen was doing his standard scramble and not making reads. It just so happened the busted play was right in front of his running lane he commited himself to......while running for what would have been another 3 yarder he saw Stewart sit down, build a fire, drink a margariti, and start sending up smoke signals that any fan in the stadium could loft him one for a score.

Outside of that play, there were tons of negatives that the one TD pass simply don't offset.
