Thoughts on recent Gantt tweets regarding coaches

After reading his recent tweets http://twitter.com/daringantt

These are the most interesting.

Not that he won't coach here, they won't hire him. RT @jis2cool Why do you think Cowher won't coach us!? Offer proof or I don't believe you. )

.Wrong again. More about not giving star coach the juice (Seifert). RT @michaelbfinch Darin is being PC, Jerry is too cheap to hire Cowher.

The two sides in the negotiation to fundamentally alter their positions, beliefs. RT @andrewheebs What do we have to see to bring Fox back?

In part, what a coach should be paid is on the list. But there are others. RT @tobyward00 What are the positions/beliefs Fox/JR differ on?

*for you beginners like me, in the twitter format, you see respones to comments/questions first...RT=replying too

so what did he say that was ground-breaking/ new?

depends, for a guy like yourself nothing.

For posters who swear were gonna get Cowher, this should enlighten them.

Also where it says Fox and Jerry have fundamental differences such as how much the head coach should be paid.(never knew one of the reasons for the split was fox not getting paid enough, also dont know what the other differences are).

Im finally starting to believe that next year we will be coached by someone different. I always thought we would resign Fox and just get different coaches around him, but seems like things are starting to look differently. Weird how big time head coaches are living right by Charlotte

They may live here, but I wouldn't bet on them coaching here.

fox is paid somewhere in the 6 million dollar range which is more than enough, guys like cowher & gruden are going to want 7 million plus and close to if not complete control of the football side of the organization. jr is not willing to do this cause he gave capers alot of control & seifert complete control & neither got us anywhere long term. he model is to have a gm & coach work together to build a team. why not pay a ast coach who wants to prove himself half of that amount

    • I get that my example was not exhaustive of all the reasons, but it also is that simple (generally). Which is why some teams pay players years before the get to FA to save some money and bet that the player continues to develop.  And I understand your point about Horn, but I dont think we are in a position to allow players of his caliber to leave. We had no succession plan for him. Had we let him go and Mike Jackson was our #1 corner on the team I might throw up. So we need to over pay to get some stability - and hope the injuries are behind us.
    • I think you have a very simplistic view of a pretty complex system, hence why you are getting emotional and confused. The league is going through a market adjustment period for several reasons(COVID cap freeze, new TV deal, etc) but paying top dollar for players that aren't clearly elite isn't typically a wise long term investment, regardless of market changes. Overpays literally happen every single offseason. We should know, we have done it over and over. Miles Sanders, Ian Thomas, CMC, etc, etc.
    • True. So you can say that he is not worth the money because he has missed a bunch of games - and thats a fair argument. But you can also say that when he is available he is 'one of' the best CB's in the league.  But now you need to value that. I doubt that he takes a deal worth less then he did (obviously) so then you need to determine is the draft pick we are going to get back for him worth it.  So you can do what we did, or you can trade the player, thereby making the defence worse, but you have most cap space sitting there.  So on sundays when we are getting blown out, you can still feel good that we have a lot of cap space.
