Where in the world is our pass rush?

To be fair, anybody that watched that Packers vs Bears game knows that Peppers had a big impact on the outcome. He may not have gotten the sacks, but he most definitely got pressure and caused some false starts and holding calls that were drive killers for the Packers. He also blocked a kick, which turned out to be huge.

Just because a lot of us are mad at him, that doesn't mean we shouldn't be honest about this. Peppers is still a beast when he wants to be, and there is nobody on the Panthers roster that can do what he does.

DE are winning the battles against the Tackles some, but there is absolutely no push up the middle. When we do get pressure on the outside, the QB just steps up in the pocket b/c no one is getting any rush from the DT's.

I don't think we have a bad group of DE's, but we honestly probably have the worst DT's in the league. Our 1st round pick next year should be the best DT available.

Tampa Bay has really improved with those 2 new DT's.

Our defense hasn't really been that bad considering the lack of pressure. We could be a top 10 or maybe even top 5 defense if we have even average DT's.

Our LB's have played pretty well and the secondary, other than dropping sure interceptions, has been doing alright after working out the kinks from Week 1.

No secondary in the world can cover with the time the opposing QB has.

Hopefully there will be some pressure this weekend. Drew Brees is in a different class than Josh Freeman and whoever took over Carson Palmer's body, and he will destroy us if he has the time we've been allowing the opposing QB's

What I have noticed is the difference in how the D is approaching a 3rd down situation now as compared to the pre-season.

In the pre-season we were lining up in a lot of 4 man fronts, usually with Hardy/Brown/Johnson on the edge and Brayton (Johnson after Brayton was injured) and a true DT in the middle. We also were sending at least one LB on 3rd downs also.

So far into the season we have played just about EVERY 3rd and distance in a 3-2-6 nickel set rushing just a combination of Hardy/Brown/Johnson from the edge and Brayton in the middle. These 3 can not get to the QB on their own. The only way you get to the QB and apply pressure by rushing 3 is if you get a meltdown on the OL.

Even though they are dropping 8 in coverage you still are not taking up the whole field. Especially if the QB has time, 8 in coverage is a waste. The only time it is a strategic advantage to drop 8 is if you show blitz and back out. Speeding up the clock in the QB's head and making him make a risky early throw. We aren't showing any type of blitz before we drop to coverage so QB's know they have all day.

That is were our pass rush has gone, onto the back page of the D play book.
