Tinted Windows

law is 35% in NC, so why in the hell would anybody get anything less than that knowing it won't pass inspection? Inspection stations can get busted if they pass a car and it's less than that, it can mean pulling their license.

But, at the end of the day, as long as it's not the owner of the inspection station you can often slide him a $20 to not light check it and just pass it. It's a judgment call, it's like tires, it's subjective if they want it to be, or the inspection station can just say it didn't have tint on it when they brought it in.

Trucks don't have to adhere to as stringent standards for some reason, SUV's as well, don't know the reasoning behind it, but whatever.

Also, if you have a valid inspection stating your windows passed the test, and you have valid proof that the tint was either factory, or installed before the inspection, you win.

If you get a ticket, show up on the court date, show the prosecutor the inspection and date of tint installation and ask him to drop the ticket. The judge won't want to waste his time if these facts prove you haven't broken any law and the judge will be pissed at the cop and prosecutor for bringing it before him and wasting his time.

i already said that it's because they are considered tow vehicles. a boat, trailer of any kind, or anything in the bed of truck will most likely just block what you see with the rear view mirror.

It's different for SUV's? I've got a black SUV and it's really hard to tell that my windows are tinted at night.

its different for tow vehicles. trucks and suvs mostly, but vans with higher payloads may also qualify. when i was in high school people with trucks tinted their back glass insanely dark. two layers of limo tint on most of them. some even used black paint.

Dayum black paint? How can you see out that? I can't really see out mine at night but I've driven the car for 5 years and I'm pretty familiar with it...plus opening the window and just turning your head around usually works just as well. I don't have a hitch on my car...so if I got one I'd be in that catagory?

yes black paint. you couldn't see out of it. that's what the guy wanted. the side windows and windshield have to adhere to the same guidelines as cars, but that back glass is fair game.

i don't think its a hitch that makes you a tow vehicle though. you can put them on anything if you really want to. i think it has to do with vehicle payload/towing capacity, and maybe even the tag fee that you pay. cars tags are cheaper than trucks and suvs. motorcycles are cheapest.
