Tinted Windows

Due to the fact that NC inspections check tint on a yearly basis unless either you aren't getting your car inspected thus not being able to get new registration every year I don't understand why a cop can even pull you over for it. I is confused.

You don't have buddies that work in the car industry? :)

Don't cops have a little device that they can use to check the tint? It's only the drivers and passengers front windows that have limits right, and it can only go so far down on the windshield...

But yes, some of them will find anything they can to give you grief about.

different vehicles are subject to different guidelines. tow vehicles can have limo tint on the back glass last i checked because that view is likely to be blocked by what is being towed.

can't have any tint at all on the front windows. Asshole cop pulled me over when I had just finished tinting my TL. They weren't even really dark, nowhere near as dark as I see some vehicles, thats for sure...plus it's an older guy driving a TL....not some 18 year old driving a civic. Guy was a real prick and gave me a ticket and threatened that he would be looking for me whenever possible to make sure I took it off....or else!

ya, I broke the law and all, but he was a dick about it

there are little lines on windshields close to the A pillar of the vehicles. that is where the tint has to stop before.

Go to your eye doctor and tell him/her that your eyes have become very sensitive to light and you need a waiver so you can tint your windows darker. Get that waiver, take it to the DMV, and they give you a little sticker you put in the bottom left hand corner of your back window.

At least that is what I did when I bought my truck and the tint was to dark! :)

Pure Genius!

I'm ure the rules are different but a couple of Cop friends of mine out here tell me that if they cannot tell whether it is a woman or man driving, they will pull them over to check the tint.

law is 35% in NC, so why in the hell would anybody get anything less than that knowing it won't pass inspection? Inspection stations can get busted if they pass a car and it's less than that, it can mean pulling their license.

But, at the end of the day, as long as it's not the owner of the inspection station you can often slide him a $20 to not light check it and just pass it. It's a judgment call, it's like tires, it's subjective if they want it to be, or the inspection station can just say it didn't have tint on it when they brought it in.

Trucks don't have to adhere to as stringent standards for some reason, SUV's as well, don't know the reasoning behind it, but whatever.

My girlfriend has tint that is illegal in North Carolina (even though its not that dark you can still see in the car). She got the car in Florida where the tint rules are more lenient but theres only one shop we can find her in North Carolina that will give her a pass when she goes for inspection. I personally don't think its worth the hassle especially when you add in the fact that cops are more likely to pull you over which can lead to more problems.
