Some WR options...

It's obvious we need another WR, while Gettis looks promising he just isn't a number two. I spent some time during class today looking at NFL rosters and possible realistic players the Panthers could target if they wanted to. Forget it people Vincent Jackson isn't coming here. While only one of these guys is a number two receiver on their team they would all easily be the best option after Smitty. I have no clue if the Panthers are looking at trade options to upgrade WR but if they aren't they should be. So heres my list....

James Jones or Jordy Nelson: Green Bay Packers, even though James Jones cost his team a win last night with a costly fumble his ability cant be questioned. Jordy Nelson is a playmaker who could not only help us at receiver but also provide valuable experience at Special Teams. Both would be fair compensation for Tyrell Sutton I think.

Jacoby Jones: Houston Texans, Jacoby Jones is an explosive playmaker who doesn't get enough opportunities because of players like Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter and Owen Daniels. He could instantly take pressure from Smith because he has deep speed and "Smitty like" playmaking ability.

Anthony Gonzalez: Indianapolis Colts, with the emergence of Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie as playmakers in the Colts offense Gonzalez may have become expendable. While he would take more to get being a recent first round choice he could certainly upgrade our offense with his crisp routes and above average hands.

Mike Sims-Walker: Jacksonville Jaguars, watching the Jaguars this year one thing is for certain. Sims-Walker is not David Gerrard's go to receiver anymore, that distinction belongs to the emerging Mike Thomas. With Jacksonville being dedicated to running MJD they may be willing to part with MSW if the price is right. While it would take something of value to get him he would provide a physical target for Clausen that could remind us of the good old days with 2003 Moose and Smitty.

Devin Thomas: Washington Redskins, Thomas must be in Shannahan's doghouse or something. Thomas has a nice combination of speed and size and is a Sims-Walker light. He has yet to tally a catch on the season and could probably be had for next to nothing.

Deon Butler: Seattle Seahawks, with Pete Carroll's commitment to Mike Williams and Deion Branch and the coaching staffs desire to get Golden Tate the ball Butler could more then likely be taken off their hands. He is a young receiver who brings current experience but he should also continue to progress.

So that's what I came up with, no huge names that make you go oooo outside of Sims-Walker and he's probably the least obtainable of all of them but a lot of nice options. My personal favorites are the two GB receivers or Deon Butler. Feel free to post your own if you would like, hopefully the FO will try and make a move to bring more talent in....

Jacoby Jones - didnt he just have a beast game

And it could be Kevin Walter next week in that offense. Anybody can be traded for the right price. He's a guy that shouldn't warrant anything higher then a 3 so to me he's an option...

    • I don't think Rodgers but probably not for the political reasons I bet a lot of posters are motivated by. I just think he is not the QB for the Panthers, at all.
    • Sun Devils just scored another TD on BYU, 14-0
    • It wasn't great but  the 2022 NYG won 9 of 16 games plus a playoff game. He had a 92.5 passer rating. 15 pass TDs 3200 yards, 7 rushing TD, 700 yards 6 fumbles 3 lost.  His first season he had 18 fumbles lost 11. Wow.  Anyhow he had problems in 2023 with injuries and didn't win poo before tearing his ACL. This year, no Barkley, not good, but you know.... these ACLs take a while and it was right and he throws right so pushes off of it.  I agree it doesn't hurt to let that guy compete cheap. You don't hand him the job like with Bryce or NYG with him.  When I look at what we have been saddled with, he doesn't look worse and has the physical advantage. So I don't get the umbrage given our situation. This "No we won't settle for anything less that the best" attitude and then taking Bryce Young was pathetic and I think that attitude brought us to where we are. That's where that poo gets you. Away from Mayfield, away from Darnold, even away from PJ - just to replace them with an inferior PJ.  At the same time I am not really advocating for the guy just looking at it objectively. It could be another guy with the same story. And yes the odds of him getting it are low but the numbers and performance from 2022 are for sure better than we see with Bryce even after a season of major propping him up with better players around him. Take a look don't take a look he fails or he doesn't fail...   to instead sit here and be happier with what we have is bullshit.
