Fire Trgovac

I'm not smart enough to know how to describe the complexity, I'm repeating what players and other coaches have said about his defenses. Earlier this year, the reporting out of training camp said that he had really simplified things, that his playbook had gotten too complex over the years. They responded by being a top defense in the league for the first eight games. So I'm not being generic there, nor am I making anything up.

I respect Fox. I think he's one of the better coaches in the league. For the money spent and the competition at his level, to have the success he's had over the past seven years is impressive as hell. HE obviously sees something good in Trgovac, even if I can't at times. So, instead of wasting time trying to tell people how awful the guy is and wondering why Fox can't see it (and making up things like "blind loyalty"), I try and figure out what I'm missing. When Trgo took over, we had a veteran defense and they became dominant. Over the years we've gotten younger and suffered for it. To me that suggests that his complex patterns are a bad fit for the current personnel. Maybe you see it different, the only one who's opinion counts though is Fox, and he isn't talking. :)

Our schedule was much softer in the first half of the year, so of course our defense looked better. We're not really all that young relatively speaking (we only had 3 players with less than 5 years experience), so I don't buy the argument that Turdo's brain power is too much for the players to grasp.

First half--four playoff teams, only one opponent that finished with a losing record.

Second half--two playoff teams, three opponents that finished with losnig records.

Can you define soft for me?

At the end of the season our strength of schedule was 20th. Not exactly an intimidating rank. What rank is the cutoff for soft in your eyes?

How is the scheme too complex and what exactly did he do to dumb it down? It's easy to throw out generic sh*t to try and defend the guy, but let's get into specifics.

Here's an article on our defense mid-season, before Fox got back involved with it. It doesn't get into specifics on your questions, but you'll get the idea.

But most players agree the turnaround from last year is due in large part to the coaching staff’s decision to simplify the defense.

After plenty of self-evaluation this off-season, the Panthers decided to trim the fat from their defensive playbook. They eliminated a lot of verbiage and a ton of complex plays, which some players say has allowed them to spend less time thinking and more time reacting.

“What happened is that as a defensive staff you put in your core defenses and then you add something and you like it, then you add something and like that, and so on,” Trgovac said. “Pretty soon that list gets to be long. As a coach you look at it and think, ‘Oh they can do that.’

Here's a question --- why won't The Oberserver write an article about Trogovac and whether this team can win with him? Especially now with Peppers expressing his dislike with our "system", why can't the media in Charlotte discuss this on a larger scale??
