yep, our owner (Benson) didn't want to pay the difference of what was offered to Williams and what Williams wanted. Peyton wrote him a check that night out of his own bank account..no b.s.

Marty has never even coached in a Super Bowl. In fact, he hasn't been in a Conference Championship game since '93. There is no way that I want Marty Schottenheimer coaching my team.

And as for your comparison to Larry Brown? Larry Brown builds teams then wins with them. He won a National Championship with Kansas, and then the NBA Championship with Detroit. So... I don't see how he's like Larry at all...

Neither had Sean Payton until last season.

Marty's never won the big games. He has too many loses in the playoffs. Oh no, Marty ball!

Marty's last season as an NFL head coach (2006) his team went 14-2 in the regular season. In 21 seasons he has 15 winning seasons, 3 .500 seasons and 3 losing season. From 1986 to 1997, Marty had 12 consecutive winning seasons. His overall record is 200-126-1, a winning % of 61.3.

I don't want to settle on just having a good team, I want a coach that can win a Super Bowl. While Marty hasn't ever been to or won a Super Bowl, that track record of success proves he has the capability of winning one.

what is also a good follow up question ( which i think is just as important) is who would these head coaches bring in as their staff? oc and dc are just as important as hc.

I prefer a coach who can double up on one of these duties. (like sean payton, josh mcdaniels) This is I want an offensive guru, someone who is also a bit of a risk taker.

As a side note

Heres good w.r coach I'd like to somehow be a part of our next staff.

1. They have to buy into the system

Jerry Richardson's desire is to have a "Steeleresque" system where the team builds through the draft, preemptively develops players and eschews big free agent contracts (even of their own guys). To a certain degree, the mechanism is already in place, so someone wanting to build his own system or "be the system' is likely out of luck. Any coach that comes in here would have to be willing to work within the framework the team has established. Coaches that in the past have worked on teams that were more free spending might not like having to make that change.

one other team that follows the steeler business model is Baltimore, but they still are active in FA and trades and run a balanced offense
