Things to consider about a coaching search

He doesn't even call the plays in Denver. McDaniels does.

Then why is he even out there? lol. We've seen head coaches run their own offense/defense without the need for a coordinator. Seems like a waste of money by the Broncos, but hey, I'm not writing their checks.

He helps in coaching, gameplanning and running practice, but McDaniels calls his own plays.

I have to admit I was never a big McCoy fan when he was here.

Frazier!

He wanted the Bills job last year and we are a bigger market then Buffalo. Hes a defensive guy that fits in the Steelersesque philosiphy. Hes a 4-3 guy so there probably wouldn't be much defensive roster turnover. We could bring in an offensive guy of our choosing (I like whoever the Packers or Saints QB or WR coach is) to work with Clausen and the rest of our offense. He fits every single requirement you said we would be looking for, its a fairly obvious choice IMO even though I wouldn't complain with Harbaugh, Cowher or Gruden.

Just curious, who would you like see as the next Panthers coach?

First choice would be Zimmer right now, but that could change.

I think guys like Winston Moss and Mike Heimerdinger are definitely worth checking out. I'm not as high on Leslie Frazier as others might be, but I'd accept him.

nor does Carmichael in New Orleans (Payton does) or Heimendinger in Tennesse (90% sure Fisher does)

Carmichael you might be right about, though admittedly he's not one of my top choices. He has some buzz in league circles though (so I've read).

Fisher's a defensive coach though, and Heimerdinger's pretty well established. I'd have to check on that.

Ok I think I was wrong about Fisher...I Know I'm right about Payton calling the shots for the saints offense tho

i can really see us going in an offensive minded coach now more than ever. i'm getting the feeling that hurney will be around and the one doing the hiring. i know it was only one interview this morning and that everything should be taken with a grain of salt but i do get the sense that hurney is really understanding that this game has shifted more to an offensive game than used to be the case and he's really interested in focusing on that phase more than defense. if JR is a hands off guy and hurney will be doing the hiring, it's very possible that we will got hat route.

like it or not (and i don't) the saints are setting the standard for most of the league right now...especially for the NFCS. in most industries, you look at what is working and not working and mold yourself after that, riding in that wave rather than fighting it. hopefully you will be able to do what they are doing but only better.

the point is riding that wave rather than fighting against it. holding to the old school philosophy of "run the ball....stop the run" doesn't really work all that well anymore because the game has gotten so pass happy. the rule changes are only making that happen quicker.

When I read through the OP one name really stood out to me until you get to #6. Marty Schottenheimer.

And I could see a situation where Brian Schottenheimer is brought in to be the OC and maybe Herm Edwards as DC to continue with the 4-3 defense. (Remember Marty has run both in the NFL) Meeks could also be kept on as he is apart of Marty's coaching tree in a sense.

And I'm not on the retread brandwagon but IMO Marty isn't a retread. He's a special type of NFL coach, a team builder. He's kinda like the Larry Brown of the NFL. And I think if Brian would come in as OC, at least from what I've seen, the old style Marty ball may not be an issue on offense.

This isn't the sexy pick to almost any fan but IMO with the youth and talent that is here it would probably be the smartest choice.

Marty has never even coached in a Super Bowl. In fact, he hasn't been in a Conference Championship game since '93. There is no way that I want Marty Schottenheimer coaching my team.

And as for your comparison to Larry Brown? Larry Brown builds teams then wins with them. He won a National Championship with Kansas, and then the NBA Championship with Detroit. So... I don't see how he's like Larry at all...

Guest DrewBreesIsGod

I would get Gregg Williams, D-Coordinator with the Saints.

you might have to write a 250K check out of your own bank account to get him...like Sean Payton did

you do know that you could probably lure Sean Peyton away for 10 bottles of vicodin...
