and what happened to all those people screaming 10-6 records with playoff appearances?

Those were the homers. They're still around but have seen the light. One day they'll listen to the realists on here in the off-season and pre-season.

Sad thing is, the lame ass gloom and doomers may be more correct then them this season.

does anyone know if otah will be back? we need him so we can control the clock and keep the ball out of brees hands by running the ball.

develop a better balance between run and pass. give jimmy an oppertunity to make some high percentage passes, mainly with screens to dwill and goodson, and smoke route to smitty in open space, especially if they put 9 in the box, or if they try to blitz clausen.

establish the run, then use play action, which i havent seen jimmy do much of, i wonder how good he is at it.

on defense, we need to utilize the blitz more often, whatever we have to do to get pressure on brees. we cant give him all day in the pocket to pick us apart. our front 4 alone havent been able to get the job done so far, gotta try something new.

if we can get the ball to smith, dwill and goodsen in space, i think that they can get some good YAC against the saints. stewart and dwill need to get the ball moving on the ground, then we can set up the play-action.

if we can do these things effectively, then i give us a decent chance of winning this football game. i think we saw some improvement last week on offense, maybe we can get it done.

It's going to take 2-3 games for Otah to get back in asskicker shape. Thankfully the Saints can't stop the run, so it may be wise to throw him out there anyway, but I don't expect him back until after the Bye.

This thread is funny as poo!

I love the, "...all we have to do..." ideas, especially given the fact that none of them have happened this season...

"...all we have to do is get some pressure on Brees..."

Sure, the same team that couldn't lay a finger on Josh friggin' Freeman is gonna get to Brees?

"...we must run the ball..."

Again, the same team who gave DeAngelo Williams how many carries last week? Stewart how many?

Saints by 17.

Our league rankings are the pits, but when you break down the TEAM stats, the big glaring number that sets us apart is the turn overs. Otherwise we're fairly close to our opponents numbers - Most of the opposing points have been scored from short fields - stop those, we might have a chance to be competitive.

So I'm gonna remain optimistic as to winning - the key being no turnovers.

I don't know if I would want Otah out there unless he is 100%. That turf is brutal on knees. All that pushing and shoving between him and the D linemen might be too much at this time. Remember Thomas Davis tore up his knee there last season. JMO.

Short/Intermediate passing game will win the game for us. The Saints are going to blitz the f*ck out of our rookie QB, but if he can keep his composure and complete to his TE's and RB's, we'll see some big chunks of yardage coming from guys like Goodson and Williams. Also, getting pressure on Brees is absolutely pivotal. If our pass rush looks like it has the past three weeks, Brees will tear us up through the air. Get some dudes in his face and let Godfrey and Marshall feast on his mistakes.

I don't care how good the Saints are or how shiny their Super Bowl rings are. This is a divisional rivalry and we have a strong history in their dome. We have a chance.

this sounds right. Im concerned about Brees Knees...hah, just had to get that in there. If Carolina doesnt pressure Brees, he will kill you. Plain and simple.

If Carolina cant get the running game going, then it will be tough for them to win.

Anything can happen for sure...but i dont see Carolina winning this game. Saints are mad. Payton is mad. Carolina is going to get their best.

those people had no clue. Im not an "i told you so" guy, but it was really laughable to read predictions like that.

Im no football expert, but even someone with minimal knowledge knew this wasnt going to be a good year for carolina.

Yeah, im a Saints fan, and i want to win the division, so its hard to pull for Carolina, but I live in CLT and dont wish ill will on the team, and have attended my fair share of games...all of them in '08. Whats happening/happened the last 2 years is all on JR if you ask me.

My prediction was 10-6, but I didn't forsee our O-Line, which has three pro bowl caliber guys and should be elite, playing like a bunch of little girls. I put a lot of our recent failure on the O-Line...we can't protect our QB and therefore can't get the passing game going. We also can't run block at all and therefore we can't get the running game going. Defense has been solid but not even the best defenses can hold up when they're on the field 3/4 of the time. If Magazu can kick the O-line in the ass and get them going we could turn it around a bit.
