what I don't get, is how do reporters not follow backup on that during the Mon. presser. They asked him about Jarrett last week....and he said a bunch of bs the following week about there assumption was wrong b/c Jarrett was active but then be made him inactive against Cincy AND NO ONE has asked Fox about it.

few things that interested me....

he said the goal is always to have a balanced offense and that teams that either pass all the time or run all the time wn't do as good as those who do both and are able to keep teams guessing. he said also that you can't always have the balanced offense you want and that when you have situations like we did this past week when cincy had the ball for 21 minutes thats going to alter your game plan and force you to commit to one side of the offense. a lot of "duh" right there but at least there is more of the shift towards being a balanced offense rather than the "do one thing and do it right" philosophy that we had for so long.

in talking about the RB situation said that we have three very good RBs right now and the only issue right now is finding out how to use all of them. can't have too much of a good thing. just need to quit turning the ball over so often and stay on the field longer to see more of these guys.

he seems really excited about gettis. feels good about smitty, gettis, and lafell. interesting he didn't mention jarrett until asked.

said edwards lost his legs late in the offseason cause he had never done so much running before but he's got his legs back. i think we may end up seeing him active before too long. hurney said they knew it was going to take time to get him ready because it was a conversion.

asked about the team rebuilding he mentioned that the team is about in the same place it was last year at this time "before this supposed rebuilding. if we have the same problems but we have younger players who seem like they might fix it i think you're ahead of where you were last year. so is that rebuilding? i don't know." interesting point. we sucked three games into the season with a bunch of old vets on the team and we suck now with a bunch of young players on the team. ideally you wouldn't suck at all but if you had to, who would you rather have? a bunch of young guys or a bunch of old guys? i say take the guys that are most likely to improve over time if you want to have team that really grows out of their level of suck.

he kept gong back to how critical it is to have a solid QB and is something that they really want to do. the team has had 12 starting QBs in 16 years and that was a position that they need to solidify. he also added that mentioned how the league was changing to an offensive league with regards to the rule changes and how you have to be able to pass the ball. he kept emphasizing that part of it. he did qualify saying you have to be balanced, but it's obvious they know whats going on and they are at least trying to fix it.

asked about the lack of veteran leadership for the QBs he said that was what they had hoped jake would be able to do and was a lot of the reason why they extended him but it just didn't work out. he said ideally you would like to have a veteran around to help them out but he also said that could be overrated because it has to be the right veteran. i can understand that. hurney said that he thought the three guys they have on the roster should be able to work their way through without that vet leader to learn from.

said they weren't looking for temporary patches and fixes but that they were interested in more long term/permanent solutions using fresh players. he said that he felt the solutions were on the team right now and that the troubles they are having right now is mainly just mental but when things start to go right with even just one player making plays then it will snowball and everyone will start getting their confidence back. once that confidence comes back things will turn around.

asked about contracts coming up and said they have a history of keeping their own players that that they would continue to do that. another reason to not be worried about losing williams, kalil, and beason.

talked about the defenses stacking the box and said that they were doing some run blitzes that was shutting down the run but that also penalties were making any sustained drives hard to pull off. problem isn't how bad the oline is doing...it's the number of defenders they are sending in and the packages they are coming in on. once one or two facets of the offense start clicking it will make things easier for the oline.

talked about clausen is always around th facility and working on things that make him better whether its in the gym or film room or whatever.very strong work ethic and really concerned with being good. he said that clausen is used to the pressure he's facing as a starter and revels in it. he's comfortable on the field, in the huddle, and being the guy. what they saw and heard form him in college (the good stuff) is what they have seen and heard here. he threw in a couple positive things about moore as well but it was more of the "but moore's pretty good, too" type of deal.

he didn't say it but yeah, i would consider that is what they are doing. everything was about building through the draft, using young players to fix problems anticipating that it is a long term fix.

i think that he just doesn't want to market it as rebuilding because it has some negative immediate connotations and also that it carries with it the implications that they aren't interested at all in the short term, that it's all about the long term. they want to win...i'm pretty sure of that. it's just they don't want to sacrifice their long term philosophy of team building or do anything that might impede the development of these players they have right now and they feel that getting them in the game is the best way to get them going.

i agree to a point but i don't think they would have sacrificed too much by going after boldin...except that it might have cost us the jimmy pick. sorry, but long term i'd rather have jimmy for the long term if he is the QB we have been waiting for rather than a really good WR who would only benefit us for a couple seasons. housh could have helped without much problem, though. he'd probably get more play time here as well.

We've drafted well for the past 5 years, and now we are putting them all on the field at once instead of a slow smooth transition. It is the same as Tampa building through the draft but they were awful when they started so there wasn't much drop off. Jimmy reminds me of Arron Rodgers, who checks down A LOT. If Rodgers doesn't hit a few bombs every now and then his yards per attempt wouldn't be very high. GB obviously has a bit more speed and play-making ability than we do, but still...

checking down isn't a bad thing if you can do it quickly, which jimmy has been known for and will do here as well.

i'd much rather that go on than staring down a target (like we have had way to much of). i'm wondering if certain plays that are called are only meant to have one player targeted which would help the constant stare down make sense. still, it would be nice to have a QB that can spot the best available option and get the ball to him quickly.

I hope Jimmy turns into Aaron Rodgers. That would mean we would have an elite QB.
