Might as well start here

A movement united as one to change the course of history by bringing renowned former NFL coach, Bill Cowher, to the Carolina Panthers as HEAD COACH!

There are several teams that are very interested in hiring Bill if he decides to return to the NFL as head coach, let's help make sure he ends up in Carolina and we envoke a drastic change in our much loved Carolina Panthers franchise...

Please comment:

Do you want Bill Cowher to be the next head coach of the Panthers? If so, why? If not, why not?

Something needs to change...

Well, I think Bill Cowher's a great coach if you want to just make the playoffs. First of all, this is his fourth season out of the league, I'm afraid if he returns he's going to see poo's a lot different than it was when he walked into the locker room after the clock hit 0:00 week 17 in 2006. 20 teams have different head coaches now than they did that year. The strategic climate of the NFL has changed drastically as a result. Secondly, conceptually, Bill Cowher is poo. The offense will remain pretty much the same in direction, and there's no place in today's league for "run to daylight" type offenses, ok, I'm sorry to say this to some of you old school fans that like this kind of boring, low-scoring offense, and rely on defense to win type gameplanning but it's just not a dominant winning formula anymore.

Also, Dick LeBeau's the biggest reason the Steelers have been what they've been for years more so than Cowher. Tomlin basically inherited Cowher's team and has won something like 4 playoff games and never had a losing season. Are they really missing Bill? Are they?

When the man fired his kids last year I knew something was brewing and he is not the typical gentle kinda guy everyone perceives him to be.... It seems like this year he has set up his team for failure as he has cut all the weight he could and has not invested a cent in trying to lock up his core players. I am starting to think he is more about NFL business then Carolina Panther business

Alright, I'm going to say this, and a lot of people that couldn't put the words together properly are going to tell me that I wrote exactly what they meant: Jerry Richardson deserves a lot of the questioning fans are expressing. Some people aren't going to like it, but Jerry hasn't said a word to the fans expressing his intentions clearly at all. For all we know he's locked himself in some f**king panic room with his fortune ($) just hiding his ass off from the media, and limiting his communication capabilities to setting Hurney's phone # to MYCHOICE on his jitterbug cell phone, and there's piling evidence he's done this purging as a crusade in the name of the owners of the NFL.

...That's not putting a winning product on the field, and I'm sorry, but teams don't play the game just to stagger around as an average unit season after season until they just happen to win a superbowl out of the blue, no matter how many people strive to advocate that sentiment (whether consciously or subconsciously), which brings me to my next subject

http://www.carolinahuddle.com/forum/carolina-panthers/45268-until-john-fox-is-fired.html

there's wayyyy too many cringe worthy superfan douche chilling comments in this thread to waste space in this post on. Nobody cares if you painted your room black and blue, or how many times you wear your reebok special edition panthers sideline fleece a week when we're under .500, or if you drafted Matt Moore 1st round in fantasy football, or if you stood in a line to get Captain Munnerlyn's autograph outside a sports memorabilia store for 12 hours in 35 degree weather. Stop acting like being a f**king fan is a sacrifice, it is one of the most nonproductive activities I've ever seen people try to gain recognition for. If you ever tossed a nickel at a homeless person, I'll give you more respect than if you tell me this bullshit story about your psychological struggle of holding in the frustration and displaying the proper decorum of the "rah-rah sis boom bah" routine after x amount of years of your favorite team losing games.

I could talk more about how sick and tired i am of hearing about the plight of the stepford fan, but on with the material. I kind of blamed Hurney in response to a Fiz post about Richardson, and Fizzy said something along the lines of this

i mean i don't think you can include hurney in this problem at all. he was never the one signing the check and all the evidence indicates this is coming from the top.

just because hurney is willing to fall on his sword on the radio shouldn't distract you from what is obviously the cause of all of this.

alright well that's exactly what he said

Maybe holding Hurney partially accountable for this whole problem is a bit of a stretch but what about the overall train wreck of the last 5 seasons? Let me elaborate: Every year it's a different f**king story/trajectory/lame excuse why we won't interview a single f**king high profile free agent. In '07 it was "21/22 starters returning", in '08 it was "We want to be like Pittsburgh", in '09 it was "2?/22 starters returning off a 12-4 team", and, most recently, "we're on a youth movement". If you think that Richardson is responsible for all those strategic zig zags, you might as well believe he is as controlling and impulsive as Jerry Jones. ...he isn't. A lot of that has been influenced by Hurney, and I think the '09 offseason was his worst effort by a long shot. Spearheaded by signing Delhomme to this big time deal as a confidence booster, basically ignoring the white elephant in the room, and trading a first rounder away for a guy who has not improved the overall pass rush ability of this defensive line one bit, Hurney guided the team down to third place.

I'm getting bored writing this so here's a gif of facebones, the greatest thing ever

My point is, this trinity of Fox, Hurney, and Richardson that makes most of the decisions in this organization that hasn't won a playoff game since 2005 can all individually be held accountable for a lot of different things and i'm right.

Onto the Clausen thing

Yes, he had some rough moments, but overall it was actually beter than I expected it to be.

I definitely see the potential for him to be a long term starter, even if he has some bad showings early on.

How many would have benched - maybe even given up on - Freeman after that performance against the Panthers last year?

This is what happens to rookies. I hate that he was thrown in this early, but now that he's in, don't screw things up even worse by pulling him out.

Completely agree. I mean, if this organization is going to pull a half-assed season, lets get Jimmy his experience now, this way down the road he will be more developed for his age as a QB. I'm not even of the "Sit them for 1000 years" crowd anyway, I don't think that has much of a positive effect if any at all. Most of that's based on the fact that David Carr started his rookie year and was "ruined", but in order for you to say that, you have to believe that he was good in the first place. It's going to take some time, but there's a good chance Jimmy will become a reliable passer in this league, and Sunday's performance was nothing to be ashamed of. Let's be happy he doesn't look completely lost out there, and has the capability of sustaining some drives as a novice QB.

and now the much anticipated conclusion

I'm pretty sure we are all in agreement that this season is a sham and John Fox's days are coming to an end...

Listed below are potential coaches for the Panthers next season. Who would you like to see coaching the Panthers in the 2011 season?

A. Bill Cowher

B. Jim Harbaugh

C. Charlie Weis

D. Jon Gruden

E. Leslie Frazier

F. Other - If not listed please let us know via comment below

My first choice right now, and I don't understand how his name isn't being brought up more, is Jason Garrett. For several reasons:

1. His ability to coach QBs would help Jimmy

2. He emphasizes a balanced offense with several running backs, wrs and TEs all getting their looks so defenses can never really focus on one particular guy

3. He can probably break down the Saints' offense better than anyone else besides the Saints' OC, since he worked under Sean Payton before he left Dallas

4. I think fixing the offense is a bigger project than fixing the defense and we're going to need some serious effort to get the chains moving consistently in the future

and now for closing entertainment, here is facebones again to do an impression of john fox on the sideline

I want a young coach to motivate and get some intensity into our young players. Man after watching the last night it's painfully evident how boring our team is compared to the league. I used to complain about us not getting any media coverage but we've got nothing to show. I just want a coach who'll show some balls, and even if we don't win at least put on a good show.

re: new coach possibilities, i do feel we need to be heading in more of an offensive direction, or at least in the direction of someone who realizes just how much this league has turned into a high powered and pass heavy offense. cowher is from the same old school as fox. it was great for a long time but the game is changing. you either go with the flow or get knocked over by it. i just don't trust cowher to be a long term solution or to be able to keep us really competitive year after year. jason garrett? i don't know. it does need to be someone that is quite a bit more progressive in his philosophies, though.

i reluctantly agree some with what was said about richardson. i don't feel that he "owes" the fans any explanation about what is going on but it sure would be nice if we weren't kept in the dark so much regarding the direction of the team. i would love to have some clue what he was thinking or trying to do. i don't want to give up some kind of competitive secrets or anything...just a couple statements on what they would like to do with the team in the next year or two. i am losing some confidence in his commitment to putting together a winning franchise. maybe thats not his job. maybe its just to grow the business. i don't know. a lot has to do with the role hurney is taking and what he sees as the long term direction of the team if he is going to be sticking around.

i'm not sure who your complaints were with in the fan thread you linked to. was it to the OP or all those who said you support the team no matter what. my opinion is that you take the good with the bad if you decide to be a fan. i don't expect any respect for it and i don't expect anyone would or should care if i decided to bail out on the team. i had more issues with the OP of the thread than anything. he was saying that stuff as if it mattered to anyone and as if it would have some impact on the team. thats just plain silly.

i do agree that JR, hurney, and fox should all be held accountable for the poor decision making of the past few years. i won't celebrate successful decision making because, well, thats their job. they get paid to make the right calls and when they don't, then that is something they have to answer for. of course, i'm just a fan so i suppose they don't need to answer to me, but they still should have to answer for the boneheaded mistakes they make and be criticized for them.

agreed about clausen. i've been changing my tune about the necessity of sitting your QB for a year or two. the past couple years when rookies have started hasn't been met with the bad results i thought might. in fact it has been pretty good results with several teams making it to the playoffs. in some cases it might be better to let them sit but in cases where they are able to grasp the offense fairly well and the offense is scaled back enough initially so as not to overwhelm them, and the team is very run heavy...it can work. when you have the fundamentals down then you learn more by getting involved to see practical application first hand than you do siting back and watching other people do it. many people learn the most by getting involved. you want to swim? you got to jump in the pool.

agreed also about carr. just as likely that he was going to suck anyways.

idk, i just think it's kind of amazing how some people brag about sitting through watching their team lose. It's really not that difficult. I mean, as much as they suck right now, it's so easy for me to go and still read the articles and watch the games, it's just something i have a vested interest in. I don't go on here and constantly bring that up every time someone wants to make a statement about boycotting the team.

If we're world beaters within the next few years, I just think it's cool I saw Jimmy play in the formative stage of his career and watched a young team mature. It's not something I think is more noteworthy than that. Sharing with the world how "hard" it was to watch a team that's not good.

I will watch the panthers till I'm dead and gone even if we suck for 50 years. Doesn't mean I will be less pissed off about it and mad that my team isn't competing.

thanks for the constructive post, you've contributed a bunch. your opinion <
