Hey I finally saw the game

I only saw two real problems with Clausen.

1) He had a tendency to pull the ball back and run before his pocket collapsed, even on crucial downs.

2) He would throw to a check down route before the play would even develope while having a solid pocket to allow him time. I'm talking like a three step drop and zing to a TE or RB in the flat two yards past the line of scrimmage.

The thing is that both of these only became glaringly apparent in the second half and I believe they can mostly be attributed to nerves after having been clobbered so many times. I think he has trouble reading the defense still, especially blitzes to his weak side. As soon as he adjusts to making correct reads so that his backfield can be in position to protect him better these two tendencies will be alleviated. At least I hope so or we will end up with a Carr 2.0 like P55 has been preaching.

I agree he will pick it up.

I certainly hope he can shake off the tendency to see and hear footsteps and checkdown so soon. One of the things that people forget is that while everyone is praising his Notre Dame experience as so helpful, they forget that he had 3 years of being pounded just like David Carr did. Only he was even younger and more impressionable. What he actually got at ND was a pounding and plenty of experience running around dumping off the ball similar to David Carr. Hopefully coming into the NFl will give him another chance to learn new habits but the real possibility exists that by being thrust into a starting role with a line which isn't protecting him, it may create the same problems for him that it did for David Carr in 2007. Hopefully he is tougher mentally and can get out of it but teams like NO and Chicago that blitz alot could make things worse not better. If the coaches don't give him more dumpoffs and short passes, he might develop a David Carr mentality.

Again I surely hope not but it is a concern at this point.

Panther55 is either matt moore or a guy who bought him and his kid a custom 85 dollar matt jersey...anything he says is irrelevant . Matt moore is a scrubb, he couldnt beat mccown for 2nd string last year, he has 0 intangibles and will not be a panther in march, hes garbage get over it

No, I don't think it is fair to label 55 as a blind Moore follower. Do you remember his take on the QBs last season?

Clausen definately has some areas of concern. Prior to being drafted by Carolina I was convinced he would be Brady Quinn all over again. Clausen does have to prove he will look to go downfield. That is the most important aspect of a QB in this offense....that is not what he is known for.

But it shouldn't be...that's the point.

Our passing offense shouldn't rely on making long throws.

The Pats went to the Super Bowl, and won, multiple times last decade, on a short, effective, safe, passing offense.

Only took me a day and a half.

1. Clausen will never get benched. The only things I saw besides the botched snaps was he stared down receivers and he did get rattled by the blitzes late in the game. Once the game slows down for him he will be a stud.

2. Turnovers cost us this game. We gave Cincy 14 on turnovers. First have we could get started due to them.

3. Defense did good the only problem was they started to go flat in the first half. Need to get back to gang tackling and getting exicted didnt see that much in this game. Seemed like they just did want to play.

4. WR corp is set Smitty, Lafell and Ghettis are going to carry us the next couple of years. Clausen did miss some easy throws to Smitty but that goes back to him staring down receivers. Give Clausen some games and that will be fixed.

5. ST nothing really to say Cincy isnt that good on punt returns and we didnt get many chances to return them.

6. Running game Dont know whats the matter with Stewart but he isnt himself. Goodson shouldnt get more touches than either Dwill or Stewart. That fumble by Stewart wasnt really his fault. That just a good hit by the Linebacker.

7. Dont see why everyone was complaining about the coaching. Execution was the biggest problem in this game. I expect a better game next week I even think we can win it.

8. Oline we are missing Otah. They really need to put Wharton at RT til he comes back.

9. Record this year. I think we still have a chance for the playoffs. I can see us going 9-7.

10. This board overreacts way to much. No need to burn the stadium down.

no real disagreements.. except if you mean "coaching" as in "playcalling" wasn't an issue.. well, we'll have to agree to disagree.. it was f**king pathetic..

I can't imagine many teams executing with how predictable it has become... (there were a few exceptions)

pretty sure you don't have a clue what you're talking about here.

keep trolling, though. you'll get hit with the ban hammer soon enough.

yeah, pretty sure you don't know what you're talking about here as well.

you're kind of taking the whole jimmy camp a bit too seriously.

it's an old debate at this point. let it go.

Appreciate the support but folks here don't want to see anything but the extreme positives. I told them that this team wouldn't go better than 6-10 and got slammed. I told them that getting rid of Jake was a mistake and got slammed. I told folks getting rid of so many vets and not having depth would cause problems down the road. And now I am telling them that putting in Clausen without a decent gameplan that plays to his strengths and doesn't get him killed might cause problems down the road and I will get slammed again.

As I have said, I hope I am wrong on this. Unfortunately so far I haven't been. Clausen could defintely be the answer but I just wonder what consistent losing and a weekly pounding will do to his confidence down the road. Just like in Houston by the time Kubiak got there it was too late for Carr. After 3 years at ND and getting pounded here, it will be hard for Jimmy to not hear footsteps. Wouldn't be his fault really. And it could be rectified with a little better gameplanning. Lets hope that Davidson has a Playcalling Ghost of the future visit tonight and comes out tomorrow with a completely different and workable gameplan.
