Fox: Clausen "more than likely" to start

Because Clausen has talent and potential? Moore isn't the worst QB ever, but he's just not an NFL starting QB.

I keep hearing that but where are any shred of facts to back it up. If anything the opposite is true. Moore has been a winning starting NFl quarterback while Jimmy has done little to nothing. At this point Clausen has literally nothing on his resume to prove anything.

Okay, let's start with a basic evaluation and look at decision making. Other than that 1 pass that got picked off behind Smitty, which was just a bad throw, he would throw it away when Moore would throw into triple coverage or take a sack rather than throw it away. Moore just had that deer in the headlights look. Maybe he is better than he has looked this year, but if he has no confidence, it really doesn't matter.

Meh, does it really matter? Obviously I want them to win, but the goal of winning is to get to the playoffs... pretty sure that's not happenin' this year unless something really drastic changes. I'm torn I guess... I don't want to ruin his confidence by pulling him or by getting him killed and losing every game. Just have to see I guess.

It matters to me. I have tickets for 6 more home games this year and frankly want us to win. I hate listening to all the opposing fans talking crap in and out of the stadium each week. It might not matter to folks sitting at home but for me I can live with no playoffs, I predicted it for months, but I want to be able to walk out of the stadium this season after a win not another butt whooping like yesterday.

The difference is that Moore tried to make something happen which was a mistake. But at least he was throwing it down the field. Clausen never looks downfield and always dump it off short just like David Carr. What you call decisionmaking I call afraid to sit in the pocket move around and find the open man downfield. I told you that his style of play wouldn't work here because he can't throw it deep and nothing he did changed that. I am all for giving him more time to change and adapt and show he can get it done. But right now he has shown little potential or great decision making.

The 49ers will be in town next month. Maybe you can go home happy after that game, don't get used to it though.

yep, that is why I didn't want Clausen to see the field under Fox. Jake and Moore fit Fox's offense. Say, all you want about the ND system.....Clausen isn't a hand it off QB and who then looks to attack downfield deep.

What abou the bomb to LaFell that was perfectly placed?

There is a huge difference between throwing 1 pass in garbage time to a receiver once the game is over and the other team is in a prevent mode versus hitting a guy deep in the first half when the score actually matters. Did the Bengals ever respect him to the point of pulling the safeties out of the box when the game was in question? The answer is no. Until Jimmy can throw it downfield and keep the safeties deeper about 7-10 points is all we willl score on anybody.

You have to admit, though, a lot of that can be blamed on the play calling. I believe he had 5 passing attempts in the first half?! Even if every one of those plays went for 50 yards they would still stack the box because he only threw it 5 times!

Now, when they opened up the passing game in the second half he settled in. There was a nice ball to Gettis where Gettis held up on the go route and the pass to Lafell wasn't in Garbage time, at least not that I remember, thought the score was 13-7 at that point?! Could be wrong, had a lot of rain in my eyes and beer in my belly! Anyway, I looked for you at the game to get you that beer but all I saw was orange so I figured you must be watching from the tunnel! :D

We definitely don't want to put it all on Jimmy. From what I could see we definitely didn't help him when we abandoned the run in the second half or ran continuously in the first half and didn't even let him throw the ball down the field.

Right now we should be doing what he is already good at, throwing it short to medium and throwing it to guys like Goodson in the slot. In fact I would line up Smitty there a few times. Not only is the playcalling too predictable but it doesn't help Jimmy do what he does best at this point. Truth is Davidson did a decent job in 2007 with Moore paring down the playbook and giving him things he could do. I don't know why he can't seem to do the same thing 3 years later with Clausen.

Actually I was in section 544 where I always am. Maybe the problem was you didn't look up far enough in the cheap seats. LOL
