Appreciation For Jake Delhomme

I think it's funny that people complain about Jake Delhomme and that fact that they want a better QB, but do they consider the probability of landing a star QB and the amount of money we would have to pay to have that luxury? Peyton Manning, Brady, and these other guys break the bank on the team's balance sheet whereas Jake keeps us in the games and arguably plays just as good if not better than these guys in the clutch. What more can you ask for? Don't get me wrong, I yell at the TV all the time over Jake, but I think our fanbase can be alittle selfish sometimes. Look at the studs we have on offense and defense. Now factor in a high-paid Qb into that equation....

To expand on that Jake makes 6.1 mil this year

P Manning 14 mil

Big Ben R 12.8 mil

Matt Ryan makes 12 mil

Tony Romo 11.8 mil

T Brady 10 mil

D McMabb 9.6 mil

I think You can add a lot of talent to a team for 3-8 million a year under a salary cap.

I was too lazy to look the numbers up, but your numbers are what I expected. For the price, we get more bang for our buck with Jake. He is one of the premier CLUTCH players at the position, but not one of the best.

To add to the above numbers, I'm pretty sure Steve Smith brings in about 4mil/year.

Besides that freak interception by Ronde and that lucky as f*ck interception by the second guy, Jake went 14-20 for 173 yards and 1 touchdown. You definitely don't want your quarterback to throw picks, but lets not pretend like those picks were anything but unsual. Jake sure did his part by forcing the pass a little, but on any other day, those passes would have gone unpicked. He needs to learn how to throw it out of bounds sometimes, but other than that, he's not doing such an awful job, we're just putting way too much thought into the TD-INT ratio. Yes, it was bad, but interceptions like the ones that occurred Monday would not usually happen. It seems we're sh*t out of luck when it comes to interceptions when facing the bucs for some reason.

here's the truth of the matter, Jake doesn't get many opportunities to throw on high % plays..why? because when he's throwing its usually something and long..on short yardage we almost always run..when he has to throw it's usually in a passing situation and has to make tough throws into small windows. it's just the way our system works right now..run to set up the pass..but if you don't run well on 1st and 2nd down..hope that delhomme can step up with a big throw..you can't expect him to succeed every time in high risk passing downs.

I think he still has some issues with TJ surgery and is still learning to compensate.

I have thought this for awhile now myself. It affects pitchers' accuracy for awhile, why not QBs? There are no case studies on QBs since no one has ever really returned to play from it so we have nothing to go on.

His throwing motion is different now that he doesn't have to compensate for all his arm problems and I think it is also leading to all those batted balls which are a concern.

Since he never whines or made excuses when he was hurt for 2 yrs, we will probably never know what the real deal is with how the TJ is affecting his throwing, but I think he is looking more accurate lately than he had been for a stretch there. Bottom line, the passing game is a work in progress due to this and it IS a good thing they run so well so they can afford to manage that.

i'm tired of arguing this stupid shhh,if you don't wanna acknowledge that jakes ints could cost us in the furture...find be that guy,the man just needs to play it safe at times.

no ones is suggesting a new qb,so plz don't let that be the first thing that comes to mind.

also jake was 14/20,but how many of those routes were "smoke" routes(quick screens)

it's cool if you like jake, but don't act like his ints and inconsistency is great leadership, and don't make excuses for it

not a jake hater, but jake is underachieving like a mfer.i hope he can get back to good jake soon.

Very intelligent post. As an outsider it seems as if Jake is not the QB that he once was. He is inaccurate and makes terrible decisions. I have to believe that when you play teams that have truly strong run defenses that they will stack the box force Jake to throw and that is not going to be good.

Jake is the Panthers QB, for this season, next season, and probably the season after that.

The people that complain about Jake are the same ones who said we made a mistake on D-Will, and how John Fox sucks and should be fired.

Some people just love to find something to bitch about.

Put it this way, if Jake a problem, then there would be some grumblings in the lockeroom about him.

I believe some people just lust for a Super-Star Quarterback, makes me think they wear panther jerseys outside, but they have a Peyton Manning Fat-Head in the Shower.

Here's a thought...the Saints have a great passing game because that's what they emphasize every day in practice. If the Panthers ran that same system, Jake would be putting up big numbers too, because the more you do something, the better you get at it. By the same token, Brees wouldn't be putting up anywhere near the numbers he is, if he came to the Panthers.

I'll take the system that's producing wins consistently, but that's just me.
