Gotta Give Godfrey some love here (stats included)

Last five games of last year he played great. Yesterday he played great. I'll take that as six out of the last eight games he played very well.

No, he did specific things in those games well. Godfrey has strengths. None of those games were examples of him improving in his weak areas. That is the problem.

Godfrey has played the run very well and yesterday was a force. He still struggles in coverage and gets burned. Kind of like the guy he replaced. He needs to pick it up in the pass defense or he is a poor man's version of Harris at this point.

He did have a pick but for the most part it wasn't great coverage so much as poor throwing on Palmer's part.

exactly.

as for his pick, Godfrey will make you pay for a mistake. He has been very good making plays off offensive errros and that is very nice. He just can't handle coverage assignments (and when you play 2 years at FS and now are at SS in a cover 2 heavy scheme....coverage assignment are kinda a big deal).

John Fox's defenses are always very competitive. However...you can play all the defense in the world and if you don't score points then you don't win games. Our best team of the last few seasons was probably a team that had a very questionable defense but an offense that controlled the tempo of the game and scored points when it mattered (2008 implosion team).

Our defense was ranked 18th in the league that year and was clearly a weak link to a talented offense. Now...we have a defense that has been in the top 5 last year and is off to a pretty good start this year and our offense sucks.

Fox just can't get it together enough on BOTH SIDES to put together a legit team. Its time for his reign to end in Carolina. We need to do everything possible to keep Ron Meeks on as our defensive coordinator and we need to start interviewing HCs.

You two are making my day zip by just comedy in the flesh, if he continues playing like he has THIS YEAR he will for sure be a PROBOWL OR ALTERNATE PLAYER I love sorry probowlers I'd take a few more sorry players if thats what you call em. He's leading lead in picks by getting lucky because he has horrible coverage, poor mans harris leading in pass defensed uh oh I think he got that stat from his rabbit foot he keeps in his jock strap sheeesshhh. A few tackles from being in the top five in that category also hey getting lucky is making him play extremely well. I will address his negatives also he got burnt in NYG back left of the endzone and was late on another play, WHO DOESNT im pretty sure every safety has been burnt this year for a big play here and there but every safety hasn't taken the ball away with three picks so for his negatives he has as many or more positives when will it stop when he's repping in the the probowl?????:mad::mad:

did you watch Godfrey play? just b/c he has good fantasy football numbers at the moment doesn't mean his play has been solid. If you have watched Carolina through 3 weeks....you know offensive coordinators have there eye on him as a target. He is wildly in inconsistant and that is costly at his position....and we have already seen that prove to be true just 3 games in.

I'm not sure how to take all that. It could mean several different things, depending upon punctuation.

Ya know man, I think Godfrey has decent odds of becoming a good safety in this league, in fact, I think he has decent odds of becoming terrifying in Meeks' scheme. . . . however, right now he is young. When you evaluate talent in a young safety, what comes to mind? Dude better be fast and fearless. Everything else you can work with to a certain degree to shape up the rough edges.

Right now he can be a liability in coverage and a safety like that can cost you 6 <shnap!> . . just like that.

i'm not reading too much into Godfrey's skills right now because I still think he's learning the system IMO. he was under Trgovac the first year he was with Carolina... then the system changes the following year and he misses more than a third of the games... then comes on strong at the end. now he's in a different position, yet he's showing growth. him showing growth in any area simply means he's starting to catch on. this doesn't exactly declare him as being the future best defensive player in the league by any means. it just means he's doing his job, and he needs to keep progressing. he gets a solid A for effort, but a B for execution. when he can force turnovers, knock balls down, and he can be in the right place at the right time when it counts the most... then you can say he's got mad skills.

Usually twice but this year to be honest I have only seen the last two games once. Did you know probowl voting usually comes from people looking at your numbers combined with what they already know about your stellar or unstellar play. Jarius Byrd last year was targeted because he was a rookie and he kept GETTING LUCKY (your def of int) and getting picks and damn guess what that earned him a trip to MIA (usually Hawaii). Two off Sanchez two more off Jake one off Derek anderson all last year were horrible qb's when it comes to efficiency so its not like he was eating up peyton brees or manning NOPE. But when you constantly are credited for turnovers you get rewarded because thats the ultimate reward at the SAFETY POSITION A TURNOVER WHICH SORRY ASS GODFREY IS EXCELLING AT. Oh yeah he just benefits from offensive mistakes like p55 said what a lucky dude to be so sorry and so lucky.
