What the Team needs to do to win.

Offense:

1. Get Otah Back. Our run game doesn't have that rabid dog assaulting a poor innocent child look anymore. We need the big uglies to start mauling. This unit doesn't look like they want to push anymore. Getting Beat Passing is one thing.. but with what looks like 3 really good running backs, and you can't open 1 hole long enough to get 5 yards.. That's Pathetic. We need some Intensity, and Otah has always been putting his body on the line to get some of that.

2. Short Passing. Right now, our running game is ineffective. In past years, we'd have run the smoke route to Smitty in an attempt to spread our the defense horizontally to open up the middle of the defense to run at. We haven't done that. It's useless trying to spread out a defense vertically when our pass is a) most likely going to be incomplete. B) when the opposing front 7 is already good enough to stop our run game. Most defenses can't run sideline to sideline, there's few players who can truly do that as well. If you want a defense to back off, you gotta hit them where it'll hurt. Sure the short stuff will only get you 3-5 yards, but once defenses start to focus on it, it'll open up other parts of our game.

3. Get the Rookie comfortable. No calling 10 runs up the middle in a row. That doesn't help him at all. It was a HOME game. There's no hostile environment when the stands barely have anyone. In the league today, one of the most fearful things on the offensive side of the ball is a QB that feels comfortable. Calling short completable passes that have room for yards after catch, calling screens, rubs, easy wide open passes to get your QB comfortable. Play action doesn't buy your QB time, especially when the running game isn't working. When you're down by a big margin in a second half, you can't try to force the run game. You're wasting time.

4. Catch the dang Ball. You still see it. Guys not putting their bodies on the line to get the ball. Pussying out. Feeling the hit before it even gets there. If you're going through the middle of that defense, you're going to get hit whether you catch it or not. HOLD ONTO THE BALL.

Defense:

1. Disguise the blitz. Face it. Our line can get pressure, but they won't sack the qb. If we don't get a sack in 4 seconds, it doesn't matter if the pressure is in his face. It's gonna be either a) thrown away B) completed for some sort of gain. We need some disguised blitzes so that lines don't know where our blitz is coming from. We have athletes on the field. Use them.

2. Safeties over the top means make a play. Our secondary has dropped WAY too many INTs. Charles Godfrey shouldn't be leading the team in Picks. Defenders don't have to catch using their Hands. Cradle it, use your chest, whatever. we're not gonna get popped.

3. Put your hands up. I wish I was saying this to the crowd, but no crowd is gonna be on our side this year. D-Line needs to put their hands up, if you can't get there in time, knock the ball down. The intermediate passing game is killing us and most of those balls are gonna be up the middle but low enough to knock down because of the velocity they require.

4. Don't be afraid of a fine. Chances are, a Ref will see you tap a guy and call it a Personal Foul. Is it just me, or have the new rules made injuries FAR WORSE. Before we could just play the game and it'd be like 1 bad injury per year. Now with all the rules and confusion about the rules, players have to watch out for too many things which causes too much thinking on the field that leads to more injuries. That said, just tackle. Refs are gonna screw us either way. All this "Well he got hit with a shoulder.. but on the head, and he's hurt, but the rule is helmet to helmet, and he didn't really lead with the head, but since the shoulder is at the base of the head, he has to have lead with the head... FINE" crap is bullshit.

Special Teams.

1. Don't F%#K up.

2. Don't F%#K up.

3. Don't F%#K up.

4. Stop Illegal Blocking in the Back every freaking play.

Discuss.

NO. The team will win if we stop turning the ball over 4 times a game. Fumble, INT in the redzone took 14 possible points off the board. Stewarts fumble sealed the game for the Bengals when the game was still in reach at 13-7. Giants game was the same way.

No turnovers = win.

Turnovers hurt more when it's hard to move the ball. If we can move the ball, we can always recover from a turnover.

umm Fines may not be much to you, but when you are approaching a lockout year, you need to keep every cent you get paid.

Still, you shouldn't be thinking about a fine when a player is coming at you, jukes and runs past you when you could have BLOWN HIM UP. Think Less, Tackle Moar.

How close was the game?

They had a chance to tie it at the end, but they were down by at least 10 most of the game.

Being able to move the ball can cover up one maybe two turnovers, but 4 is nearly impossible unless you're pulling them back from the other team (which we are but not at the rate we turn it over)

I also think our turnovers have a lot to do with forcing the ball and trying too hard because of our lack of movement.

That was not the case yesterday. All the turnovers were jitters or lack of concentration. fumbled snaps, 1 int where the ball was thrown behind Smitty, fumble by Stewart, bobble by Goodson. None of those were due to forcing anything.

INT was just a bad decision all around. Smith was covered well and he threw it anyway. The fumbles could be attributed to the slick ball (still inexcusable)...so I'd like to see another outing before I pass judgement there. But all in all, the Panthers lose because of turnovers, this year and last.

Fumbled snaps, jitters, and lack of concentration deals with getting Clausen comfortable. The 1 INT was in the redzone where we had a chance to make a play. He forced that ball in and tried to make a play too hard. Goodson focused more on running instead of securing the ball. Stewarts fumble was the only one where he got popped clean. Most of these were players trying too hard to make a play because we're really struggling for production and points.

    • Rewatching the 3rd period, on the go ahead, Blake kinda coasts by the goal until one guy dives and one guy slides too far, and the goalie is exposed.  On KK goal, Igor completely thought it was a pass. Even looking to his right instead of down. Slowest goal ever.
    • Cooper Rush is a veteran backup, isn't he?  He's not comparable to BY... And anyway, Washington has a pretty meh defense this year. Still a good game. HOU, well, that was on 55 attempts, lol.  Couple of decent games from him. We'll get to see him soon lol
