Clausen compared to other QBs first NFL start

All because Otah got dinged?

I wish I knew the cause.. as does the coaching staff I'm sure.. I have to say it's because defenses are going to do whatever it takes to stop the run and force us to pass.. we are absolutely not a threat.. so I find it hilarious everyone is like "get back to running the ball!".. after all, that's all we've been doing.. (ironic, I know)

playcalling is at a high school level..

and Otah being out has to be a factor.. the right side of our line is fairly weak..

all 3 of those reasons make a strong case, IMO...

Thought I'd post a QB Rating comparison of the first few games of some QB Legends. And yes, I left off Marino and Montana intentionally. They were unbelievable with routine 100+ ratings early on. Just thought it'd help to get a little perspective when comparing Clausen's numbers with some hall-of-famers or future hall-of-famers at the beginning of their careers.

Game 1

Steve Young – 77.2

Tom Brady – 62.9

Peyton Manning – 58.6

Jimmy Clausen – 53.6

Donovan McNabb – 44.9

Brett Favre – 41.7

Troy Aikman – 40.2

Terry Bradshaw – 19.3

John Elway – 0.0

Game 2

Brett Favre – 97.1

Tom Brady – 79.6

Troy Aikman – 71.1

Terry Bradshaw – 61.5

Donovan McNabb – 60.4

John Elway – 58.8

Peyton Manning – 51.1

Steve Young – 29.8

Game 3

Brett Favre – 144.6

Donovan McNabb – 60.4

Tom Brady – 58.7

John Elway – 56.8

Peyton Manning – 39.3

Steve Young – 31.6

Terry Bradshaw – 29.6

Troy Aikman – 4.0

Game 4

Tom Brady – 93.4

Brett Favre – 90.8

Steve Young 70.6

Peyton Manning – 63.2

Troy Aikman – 39.6

Terry Bradshaw – 19,6

John Elway – 36.6

Donovan McNabb – 28.8

Lets put this in perspective. First of all spme of these quarterbacks were not great statswise and only become legends because their team won a few superbowls. John Elway was known for 4th quarter comebacks and 2 superbowls but otherwise has a career passer rating of 85. Terry Bradshaw played 40 years ago so the comparison is hardly relevant. Steve Young was so bad for several years he was traded by Tampa and benched in favor of Steve Bono. I would hate to have our starter suck for years before getting it together. Look at Troy Aikman. His rookie year they went 0-11 and his second year they went 6-5 before he got hurt. Sorry but 6-16 over the next 2 years is not what I signed on for.

Brady by his third start actually had a passer rating of 148 in 2001 against Indy, was already 2-1 at that point and went on to win the Superbowl. Do you really think that is in the cards for us?

McNabb also won his first NFl start- so much for that. Plus it took him almost 6 years before he completed 60% of his passes in a season and 3 years before he posted a passer rating in the 80s. No thanks again.

People talk about Manning going 3-13 his rookie year but fail to note that their defense gave up 27 points a game and they lost 5 games after having double digit leads. He had 28 Ints but 26 TDs as well. He also set 5 rookie passing records.

Lets see what happens next week, if he gets better he gets a few more starts. If not there is no guarantee he starts after the bye.

Then leave this forum and never return. Go become a Steelers fan. They win a lot. So do the Colts. Go be their fan.

Some teams haven't been to or won the Super Bowl in 20-40 years. YEARS. Some teams rarely make the Playoffs. If you can't handle a team in a period of struggle, then this isn't the right team for you.

You can argue we were all spoiled with our 4 Playoff runs in so little time, but after this season is up, it makes once in five years we will have gone to the Playoffs. Face it, we're not a top tier team right now. Moore won't change a damn thing. Clausen is here for four years. We may as well let him play, as other teams did with their rookies, and see what the next couple of years brings us.

Unless, of course, you want to trade for the QB you think will magically make it all better. But our FO doesn't do that.

First NFL start statistics:

Troy Aikman- 17/35 180 yards no TDs 2 INTs

Tom Brady- 13/23 168 yards no TDs no INTs (followed by 12/24 86 yds no TDs no INTs and 2 lost fumbles the next week)

Not time to press the panic button yet folks. Lets give him a couple of more games to get acclimated.

(Can edit and add more, just got lazy)
