Know who else was a great Super Bowl winning coach who retired but came back for another go? George Seifert...just saying
And you can debate this all you want. But this is a true fact. Bill Walsh Left George Seifert a very talented team when he took over. All Seifert had to do is coach the dam team. Unlike Cowher who pretty much built his own Team from the ground up and won 10 of 15 season as the HC of the steelers. Your point has failed.:ciappa:

In addition to the ability to coach, be it Seifert or Bill Walsh the 49ers had a little prick owner by the name of Eddie Debartelo who spent fortunes on free agents. The 49ers essentially had an advantage similar to what the Yankees enjoy today in baseball.

When the salary cap was finally instituted, it was the end of the 49er winning teams. To this day they have not recoevred.

Why would doing that make him a prick owner?

He got his team/fans multiple championships....

Even if they suck now at least they have a dynasty to look back on. What do we have? A SB loss as our shining moment?

I guess I don't understand statements like this.

A movement united as one to change the course of history by bringing renowned former NFL coach, Bill Cowher, to the Carolina Panthers as HEAD COACH!

There are several teams that are very interested in hiring Bill if he decides to return to the NFL as head coach, let's help make sure he ends up in Carolina and we envoke a drastic change in our much loved Carolina Panthers franchise...

WE WANT BILL

Please comment:

Do you want Bill Cowher to be the next head coach of the Panthers? If so, why? If not, why not?

....

......Let me say this with the bad direction we are heading in we need a change and cowher might be that kind of change.. We may want to get rid of Davis our offensive coordinator while we are at let me blunt he freaking sux.. He runs the same plays over and over again.. So honestly Id like to see cowher come in and bring his own coordinator while he is at it............Im just sayin.........

Something needs to change...

Because he has Stanford kicking butt out in the uber difficult PAC-10.
So that's colleage. Doesn't mean Jim will come into the NFL and do the same thing. I would wheather with someone like Bill Cowher that gives us the best chances of been a better team then we are right now. People thought Steve spurrier was going to come into the NFL and help the Redskins win big because he won big time with the Gators. But you know what Steve Spurrier failed in the NFL and returned to the colleage ranks and he still ain't fulll recovered from the NFL yet. Bottom line no Colleage HCs. Doesn't work well. Bill is our best chance right now. It might take Bill a year to get his pieces in place to make us good again. But with this crowd on this site. If he fails in the first year then ya'll will talk trash about him either way. I surpport Bill to become HC of the panthers if it happens.:yesnod:

1: I hate the 49ers.

2: When the Salary Cap was first instituted the 49ers were caught cheating.

3: Debartelo was caught bribing the Governor of Louisiana and is a convicted felon who was forced to leave Pro Football.

Yeah, he's a slimy prick.

I can think of only one... I am sure there are others though. The only one that comes to mind is Jimmy Johnson and that is it. Switzer doesnt count because he won with Johnson's team. Once those players starting aging out and moved on, Switzer didnt do anything.

Mostly coaches that move from college to pro do not do very well. That is how I see it. Now, I am not against Harbaugh if JR and Hurney think he can do the job.

 When did Marty Hurney come into the picture. Marty has no say in this one bit. Hell Marty doesn't even have a contract with the panthers anymore at this point in time. Marty is working on week to week pay check with the panthers for now. I doubt Marty will be here after this year anyway if Cowher is to become HC of this team. But at this point JR and the Panthers Board of directors have the final say in who gets hired and fired around here. Not Marty. Marty is outside looking in right now. He is working on weekly bases since he no long has a contract with the team.

successful college coaches who have gone to the NFL? there are a good few. ones that were successful once they got to the NFL? theres a couple...

jimmy johnson

tom coughlin

ok...now coaches who have won the superbowl with more than one team....

There are many more college coaches to NFL failures and fiascos than the ones who have been successful. This notion that a college coach, without question, is a better option than a retread is ludicrous. Out of the two you mention, Coughlin, had NFL experience before becoming a college coach. Bobby Ross would have been a better example  More retreads have gotten their teams to the playoffs and built winning programs than successful college coaches to the NFL in my opinion. I don’t have all the facts and data to prove that. I would be on board and ok with Harbaugh but that is about it. Here are some big names that failed in the transition Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban, Dennis Erickson, Butch Davis. I would much rather have Cowher, Gruden, or even Dungy if possible than a college coach experiment and gamble.

I said Hurney because I dont think he is going anywhere. Otherwise it was without a doubt JR calling all the shots including the draft. You dont draft a QB with your first pick, and a long term project in Armanti if you think or know you are out the next season. Those two picks are not made by a guy one his way out. Just my opinion and why I think he will be here. I could be wrong but think Hurney will be in the picture.

That's one of the silliest things ever posted here

.

By a teams fan base publicly displaying their desire for a coach to be here, you add another element to a potential candidates reasoning for joining a team, other than money.

Example: Bill Cowher may get offered a salary lower than he would be willing to come coach the Panthers, but may see the large fan base that is in very much support of him coaching this team, which will instill confidence in his decision to come here whether or not the money is exactly right. This hypothetical situation could work for any top notch potential candidate.
