Is it time to break up Panthers, trade Smith?

I think we can get 2 first rounders.

that's a little much.

Off the top of my head, the only players traded for two first rounders were Jay Cutler, Ryan Leaf and Sean Gilbert.

I think the Falcons did it to.

Never has a Wide Receiver been traded for that. I know that Steve Smith is a special talent, but good lord that'd be a large pill to swallow.

Ok try this if we go 0-5 would you be willing to trade him then?

For what?

For another WR?

A TE?

We can't field Gettis and LaFell.

It's not about the record, it's about being competitive.

Steve keeps us that.

Keeping Steve, could very well be the best thing for this team assuming a coach with some semblance of offensive creativity comes in next season.

If not, trade him after the season. We're not going to get anything near two 1sts either way.

So what if he's the only receiver we have...he's getting old and if you're going to get what you can...get what you can and I suggested this a year ago, BUT I disagree with it now.

Why? You might have gotten a 1st and a conditional prior to this season. Now? Post 2nd arm break...age...impotent offense not showing him off...incompentent front office wrt trades. You might get a 2nd for him.

The discussion right now should be trading DeAngelo for a 1st and conditional for 2012.

Sad to see, but that's what needs to happen.

I'd rather resign D'lo and trade Stewy for a great CB.

Stewy has spent too much time this season trying to go East/West.

Stewy still has a lot left in contract...and D'Lo is in his final year of his rookie contract and going to want to get paid. Which do you go with...someone that's going to be a nice hit against your cap? Or a younger player (at a position with short lifespan) that's under contract for quite a bit longer with talent...and talent behind him (Goodson/Sutten).

and I say this as a huge D'Lo fan.

Jake Delhomme, Brad Hoover, Julius Peppers.

What do these three players have in common? They are not Steve Smith and thus they are no longer Panthers.

Smith will never be traded nor will he ever ask for a trade as long as Jerry Richardson is the owner of the team. Period, the end.

I think the bigger question, and one more logical for the beat writers to be exploring, is does the relationship between Smith and Richardson go beyond personal and into football operations. I believe that Smith has never tried to influence the team through his personal relationship with JR, but that might change and if it does will JR listen?

Smith's reaction in the game has nothing to do with Clausen. I would imagine that Smith is excited about what this rookie can do. I think the reaction has more to do with the offensive playcalling, game planning and overall coaching of the team.

I for one have been a Fox supporter for a long time but that time has ended. And I think Smith was and now is in the same situation I was in.

Smith isn't going anywhere. Fox and Davidson on the other hand is a completely different story.

Depends on which one's better.

And, if your looking at this season, it's D'lo.

Besides, we're stockpiling enough money to pay DeAngelo whatever he wants. Although I wouldn't expect him to be too irrational with what he asks.

Along time ago in a far far away land. A Coach and owner traded their best player for Draft picks. Want to take a wild guess who it was and how it turned out for the team that traded the player? Cheering for a team is hoping they win the game but it is also wanting them to do the most to improve for the future. If I was down there I still would go to the games jsut to watch the new team improve and hope they win.

That team had a hell of a draft. I don't know if Hurney (or a new GM) could replicate that success. A lot of picks were dealt in that deal and i have no idea if we could get more than 2 for Smith. Anything is possible tho.

This is the dumbest sh*t I have ever heard. I mean did the Cards just trade away Fitz and Bolden cause they sucked for so long... Or why dont the Bucs just trade Josh Freeman cause its clear they are not going to the playoffs. Why dont the Viking just go ahead and trade AP cause its clear they are not going to have a QB this year or next.

I mean trading good players cause the team sucks this year makes no f*cking since. Your just hurting your chances next year doing crap like that.

ok:rant:

Bolden did get traded. :D But Smitty is 31 he has 2 good years left. People always complain when we let players go and dont get anything for them. Well this would be our chance.

We are already the youngest team in the league, Trading Smitty for a draft pick? What are we going to use it on? A Wide Receiver?

Not a good idea. Smitty is a competitor and wants to win, wants to be apart of the win.

Get the other players to step up and take the double team off Smitty that is what needs to happen. NOT TRADING HIM
